Mobil 1 5w50 Oil Analysis results
For anyone interested I received back my oil analysis results for Mobil 1 5w50.
I put the M1 in when the car had a total of ~450 miles (replaced factory oil)
I put on about 4500 street miles and 300 track miles before changing again.
Note the comment about higher than average metal... perhaps supports my theory on changing the oil very early on due to engine break-in

Ha! Vindication!
Should quiet some of the naysayers of early oil changes, those saying that there is no significant break in metals showing in the oil on these newer engines!

Yep. I'm glad I did an early oil change and then another at 5k. Need to look at the data in some more detail tonight against M1 new. Doesn't look like it sheared much tho if I'm looking at the data right

Looks like viscosity values are right on the money, no issues at all beyond the elevated metals, and those will drop on subsequent changes.

Yeah I need to post up on svt forums too. Looks like no shearing to speak of which I am happy about. Additives look good too, and I will watch for metals to decrease as I get more miles on. Used one of the free ford oil changes so I'm on motorcraft 5w50 now. Will see how it holds up in comparison later this year. But for all the people who talk crap about M1 it sure seemed to hold up well for me. And had about 4.5 hours of track time too, so seems reasonable

It did do well, and the fact that it's a 5w50 that didn't shear is really good. I can't wait to do mine at about the same time and see how my motor has done with 31k miles using either Mobil 1 or recently Castrol.

Good results! I'm a rookie to tracking but like to go once or twice a year. Good to see Mobil 1 holding up. That might be what I switch to after this last change with Motorcraft.

Here is mine from 2 changes. First is stock oil. The second is a run of 5W-20 Royal Purple SAE stuff.
My wear numbers look the same. The copper is spot on. I'm pretty hard on mine at times at least from hard pulls down off ramps and such lol.

So which do you think was better for your application Motorcraft or Royal Purple?

For what I do the 5w-20 is fine. I don't track my car. I might some day, but I'll do other things like add some of the track pack items for oil cooling and engine cooling. So 5w-50 is over kill for me. I think.
I like Royal Purple. So far my wear numbers are great on my engine. I've not used Motorcraft in any application to comment on it.
I have one more batch of 5w-20 Royal Purple SAE stuff, and then I might switch to 5w-30 to get thicker oil on hot days when I drive hard. I'm using the Royal Purple filter too. Its purple, it matches my interior lighting lol.

Ok I still use Motorcraft 5W-20 full syn. but I have only done one change so far to get the factory fill out at 1.2K. I use RP filter too. I will probably get an oil analysis to see how things are going on the inside at 6K when I change it again. I don't really understand how to read them tho. lol

As far as changing oil on a new car, how could there not be breaking metals in new oil, in a new engine. I changed mine near 4k, I was going to at 1k but I waited. I don't think it really made a difference overall. I would never go to 10k on the as delivered oil.
The owner manual says something about heavy duty usage change at 5k miles. Heck I think it says something about 3k changes.
If you beat on your car drive it hard etc, changing oil at 5-7k is a good idea.

Kits are free, when you turn them in $25 a sample. Its plus $10 for the TBN. You can read about that on the site too.

I think I'll send in my oil for analysis.
I'm just over 4,000 miles on the original oil. The car was broken in for maybe 200 miles and then I commenced to beating on it fairly regularly.
Results should be interesting!
