Mileage of new Mustang direct from factory?
Mileage of new Mustang direct from factory?
Taking delivery of my 2013 Mustang GT tomorrow, but the dealer let me drive her today. I watched the vehicle being unloaded from the transport, so I know that my dealer did not drive the GT. However, there were 41.1 miles on the odometer. Does Ford "test" drive, at random, select vehicles? Seems strange that the GT would have 41.1 miles direct from the factory. Oh, the GT was built on 3/20 and finally released for shipping on 5/14, after a LONG factory hold.
Yes, sometimes the factory will test some of the vehicles for a Quality Control assessment. By how many miles are on the car it appears that this was the case. If this is the case you should have an extra sticker or piece of paper notifying you of this.
Congrats on the new car

Yeah, if you don't have that QA paper, it was probably joy-ridden by the transport company
I don't think that flatbed would have taken your car all the way -- at least for us, it comes most of the way by rail.

I bought my Mustang on April 7 right off the showroom floor. There were 81 miles on it. I asked my saleslady if it had been used for customers to test drive. She replied "No. It has been in our showroom since it came off the transport." I wondered how the 81 miles got there, but quickly dismissed it when I pulled out of the parking lot.
Since your car was built back in March and finally released, the miles were most likely from them driving to make sure the car is right for shipping. I wouldn't be worried at all. Also remember, that when the cars are held up at the plant, during that time, they are moved ALOT. And when that happens, they are driven from one place to another, not taken by carrier. Less chance of damage on a carrier vs a short drive to another lot. I wouldn't let it bother you, if the car seems to be find and everything checks out. It looks awesome with the Accessory Package on it!!

do they do this at random, or becuase they feel they need to test a specific car after completion for issues ?
You bought a car with 500 miles on it?
Im assuming you bought it at a used car price? You should research it and see what you find. I bought a Tacoma in 2006 that had 181 miles on it and after lots of arguing and research for a day it was sold to me as a used Tacoma.

Mine had 41 miles on it, but it also had a window sticker from a different dealership. Most of those miles probably came from driving the car from one dealership to the other.
