Microsoft Sync Issue

I have 2013 Mustang GT without NAV. I have a IPOD NANO. When i plug it into the AUX and USB it plays music but I can not change the song from the steering wheel or console. It just says Sync Line In. To change a song I have to do it firectly from the Ipod. I than also tried putting music on a 1gb flash drive formatted it to FAT 32 and plugged in the thumb drive. I go to source than USB and it says USB EMPTY. I am having a lot of trouble finding an easy way to play music and change it from the buttons. I even tried pulling out the SYNC Fuse for 30 secs and plugging it back in to reset it that did not work.

You sure you have it through USB? The screen should display USB and not line in. With Line in it doesn't display track info and you cannot change through steering wheel controls. USB does display the track info and can change though the steering controls. Does the name of track info get displayed?

My wife uses her Iphone in her Fiesta and is able to change songs and control through Bluetooth she does not even need to use the USB.

Maybe the music has to be put in a folder labeled music? I haven't used a flash drive so I am by no means a expert. But For certain devices if the files aren't in a folder labeled "music" they won't play. Do you know how they were in a folder or just on the flash drive?

I was looking at my manual to make sure that there wasn't any specific way of having the stored but it didn't list anything from what I could read anyway. Only thing I could think of might be possibility of not having a supported format. As for the iPod im not too sure as why it would show as line in unless your using a auxiliary cable, but as you stated that's not the case. Try performing a master reset and hopefully that might fix some problems you have.

Yes, when i plug in my ipod i am plugging it into the AUX i have an adapter that goes into my ipod than into the usb and AUX in the car. the USB is to charge the ipod while its playing. But when my ipod is plugged in it shows LINE IN and I can not change the song from the steering wheel only from the ipod nano.

The whole reason i tried the flash drive was because i was not able to control my ipod from the car in the first place so i figuered i would use a different method.

There are some updates that can be loaded. Go to the Ford web site and check out the sync section. It has you download a file, insert it into the usb port, and it checks the firmware load I believe. Then based on that, you return to the site and get an update. Maybe that will help.

Here's the site:

http://www.ford.com/technology/sync/

Here's the "Music and Media" section instructions:

http://support.ford.com/topics/sync-...c#topic-item-5

Connect your iPod with the USB cable and disconnect all other cables. Select USB as your input. Let us know what happens.

Wait, so it's 2 cables or 1 single cable that you have attached to your iPod?

I've used 2 flash drives with music in my '11 since day 1 w/ no problems. I'm no computer nerd, and couldn't even tell u what a fat32 is. But... I bought mine, copy/paste, done.
Maybe something in the formatting ??

Never heard of that before. All you need is the regular iPod USB cable.

Yeah that's your problem, get the single USB cable and everything will be resolved.

wow you guys are life savers thank you so much. I switched to the regular ipod cable i use to sync my ipod to my computer and everything works perfect. I spent 6 hours trying to figure this out all day. What happened is in my old car bmw 135i you need the one with the two ends for it to work on the screen. Obviously sync works different haha. thanks everyone.

I just wanted to say thank you for creating this topic. I placed three music folders in my USB stick and now I can listen to MP3's without having to put them on my phone! My only complaint is that I can't navigate through different folders using the buttons. But I guess that's not needed since I can say "Play *Track Name*' and it will play the song.
