Which Michelin Pilot Super Sports for 2014 GT?

I've heard nothing but great things about these tires, and the tires that came on our 14 GT are getting near replacement time.

But when I went to check out prices I see there are many different models of the Pilot SS tires, and I'm no expert.

I'm in FL so snow and ice aren't a factor.

Can anyone suggest which model is best for handling on our GT?

Thanks much!
Tom

Depends on which wheels you have. Brembo or Base GT wheels? On the OEM Brembo wheels the widest I'd go is a 275-35-19 to keep the overall diameter as close to OEM spec as possible. I've run these tires myself and the lateral grip is phenomenal both in wet and dry conditions. Not to mention insane treadlife as long as you aren't lighting them up on a consistent basis.

There's only one model of Pilot Super Sport. The PSS ZP is for the run-flat model which you don't want.

OK I'll look again. I have a base GT, and the tires on it say "P 235 50r 18 97"

I am seeing these at about 180 something at TireBuyer online, which seems WAY too low, I thought these were REALLY expensive tires....must be looking at the wrong ones or something is fishy...?

No offense but for a 235/50/18 that is expensive. Price goes up damnear exponentially with the size. Check out the cost of a 315/35/20!

I run the A/S 3 in size 255/45/18 on my '14 GT, 255 is the widest recommended tire for the stock 18x8 wheels.

It's a highly rated tire, though. $178 (tirerack.com) doesn't sound too bad to me. I want 275/40/19s at $275ish. 315/35/20s are $435ish.

Understood but their cost is near, if not at the top in street performance tires. FWIW I have them on my car (315/35/20 and 275/35/20) and love them.

If you can find pirellis I will definitely recommend those. my second fav are bf goodrich t/a, and keep the size close to oem size.. otherwise the speedometer will be off or ull burn more gas with wider tires just to have more footprint

Oh, I get you now. You were replying to the inexpensive comment. I skimmed over that and thought you were just throwing that out there, like theyre not worth the $. Did you have to roll fenders with those bad boys? Got pics?

If you're thinking of these, tire rack has them:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

I’ve always had good luck ordering tires from Discount Tire even though they are not shown on their website.

Or you can use the Michelin dealer locator in the link that I posted in reply #5

Those are the pure summer tires. I also run the Pilot Sport A/S+ in 275/40 19 and love them. The A/S 3 and + are the all seasons. Worth every penny. I have friends that run the Cups and swear by them at the track.

Gotcha...In my opinion the PSS’s definitely worth the price of admission if you want to push the car on "Street tires" with more confidence. Not even a comparison between them and Pirelli’s that were on the car…junk verses street legal race tire!

No body mods involved. Wheel offset is 59mm. I won’t lie, it is tight and would go with 305’s next time. I do infrequently get a minor rub on the plastic shock covers on hard whoopee bumps and off camber driveway entries. I’m not overly concerned about that.

Not great pictures but they get the point across.

Pirellis are what come on the cars stock and IMHO are the worst tires I have ever had on a vehicle. My car only has 10,500 miles on it and the factory Pirellis are the loudest tires I have ever heard. They have been rotated twice already.

Yeah, I gave Pirellis more than a fair shot but theyre krap. Nice ride, love how the rear well is completely filled.

Im actually running 275/35 Cooper A/S's and I'd definitely recommend them, but am looking to transition my ride from DD to a weekend/track car next year so Im looking at summer performance tires now.

I went from the factory Pirellis 235/50-18 to Cooper Zeon RS3 A (all season) in size 255/45-18. The Pirellis were worn out, dangerous and replaced at 19,000 miles . I only drive a couple thousand miles a year, the Coopers seem pretty good so far.

Have anyone one these forums used the Mickey Thompson Street Comp Tires on their Mustangs yet? I was wondering if anyone has used them or know anything about their quality. I can get a set of staggered for my boss wheels for under $820 mounted and balanced.
