2 out of 10 times that I start the car it cranks for 2-3 seconds before starting. I always use the one touch starting.

Twice today it cranked once, stopped and then cranked for a few seconds and then started fine.

Very odd, I am around 1/4 tank of fuel.

I think he's referring to the fact that you only have to turn the key once and then you can let go while the car cranks over

Me neither. I taught the OP meant a one touch start button hidden somewhere. I was gonna fly over to the garage to check that out. Oh well.

You mean if you let go of the spring loaded start position so the key returns from start to on, the starter keeps cranking until the car starts?

Occasionally mine doesn't start right off first lick. But after a few seconds of the starter turning I let go of the key and the starter stops - like it should. So (in extreme situations) you don't burn up a starter motor or kill a battery.

I'm with Charlie on this one... there's no way I want the car to continue doing something I didn't ask for it to do. Like let's say I realize there's a cat in my radiator fan... or something... and I hit the starter and see the blood squirt out... or something... I want to be able to shut that sucker down RIGHT NOW by ceasing my request. Yeah, I could turn the key off but I want to know that I control the start, not the car.

If you get that far keep the starter engaged and finish him off, it's the only humane thing to do.

It's the equivalent of a starter button like the ones found in the Taurus, or BMW's. It's just in key form since that required no dash mods.

Argetni, I'm sure you've thought of it, but your problem just screams 'poor gas quality.' Have you tried switching it up? Are you running 93 octane?

My experience with ignition switches says that it's a mechanical linkage connected to a switch that's temporarily on as long as pressure is applied but off when pressure is released. The buttons are tied more to the electronics and lack the spring feedback of the normal ignition switches.

I could be wrong. . . (again... gasp!)

I just looked at one today. If you put the key in, twist it and let go immediately, it goes through the startup sequence by itself. Dial sweep, engage starter until engine is running. Just like pressing the "start" button in the Taurus.

I usually get gas at a no name station always 93. I just got $20 of 93 from Lukoil yesterday, you would think their gas would be better than the no name but who knows.

I just went out and started in 20 mins ago just to see and it started right away of course.

I will fill it up at exxon tomorrow as a test.

Its also on my econo box which is a 2006. Its nothing new, and I actually prefer it. It prevents overstarting, for others that you let drive your car and don't know it well.

I believe that this is the first year that it is included on the stang.
