Kona Blue = purple??!!

Sorry... but I don't see it.

Maybe this only shows up under certain lighting conditions?

The attached picture seems to have some hint of it. This is the most purple picture I could find... Is it more pronounced elsewhere?

Honestly, as a fan of Plum Crazy Challengers and 'Cudas, the idea of purple isn't a bad thing...but I think you guys are losing your minds. It's blue!!

it depends on the lighting...you have to see it in person, preferably at sunset

It definitely has a tinge of purple to it. Sonic Blue also has more purple in it compared to Vista.

I saw one at sunset and it had the slightest tinge of purple to it. Most colors are going to look different under different lighting conditions, though. It's not unique to Kona Blue. Whatever happened to that color shifting paint they had on the Mustang Cobra several years ago?

By the way, that is a really beautiful photo. It gives me an idea. It would be cool if TMS would put together and sell a few calendars each year, with photos from member's own cars. The reason I say a few calendars is because you could have separate calendars depending on generation. You could have a poll where the members can vote on which pictures to use each year.

I've had some people think it is a blueish purple at sunsets.

This is more of a navy/midnight blue than Sonic or Vista ever was. Definitely don't see the purple, even under direct sunlight. You might be picking up hues from the sky at sunset, which would give it a purple tone, especially under a red/orange sunset.

I don't notice much blurple with Kona Blue, purple at night is what killed off Sonic Blue for me in 2004. Kona looks like it stays blue in the vast majority of lighting conditions, though some pics I see have a slight tinge of purple, not enough to make me think it's not blue though. It was competing with Red Candy for the right to be my car color, lost by a slim margin.

In the showroom under fluorescents it's purple. I was debating Kona or black.

Lighting does make a big difference. My Candy Apple Red would have a purple tint to it at the right angle under a bight blue sky.

I drove next to one yesterday in the sunlight and it looked a very nice shade of darker blue to me no purple but of course it was moving. I still like "Vista Blue" best but I am biased !!!

Kona Blue was one of my top two colors, until i saw it in the shade at an angle. Just too purple for me so i went with Red Candy.

I like that idea. Also have some hi-def pics that we could use for wallpapers. Some of the pictures on here are really quality shots of the members cars. Some of the great ones though, when you blow them up to screen size, are to fuzzy to really use.

Just my 2 cents

I really wanted to like the Kona Blue. It looks great in pictures. I love the name(vacationed in Kona for a few weeks). Looks excellent in normal lighting conditions. But in certain situations, it looks like a purple glare comes through.
Maybe its the angle of the sun here in northern michigan.
At night it almost looks black. I like how it changes color slightly, but wish the metallic hue wouldn't look so purpley.
It kind of reminds me of the difference between Redfire and the Candy Apple Red from a few years ago. Average light, they loked the same, but with bright sunlight, the Redfire had a purplish hue, while the Candy had more of a gold metallic.

I have to agree that there's some "purpleness" to Kona that doensn't show in pictures. The dark blue was the only colour I considered until my wife plead for Sterling grey, which then got ordered... When I finally saw a Kona car in person I was quite surprised and glad we chose the grey.

See this (or any) colour in person before making your decision if hue matters to you.

Wheels and interior have a big effect on this color. Rayman did a shop for me to see some wheels. This is the exact same picture in both only difference is the choped wheels and you can really see a difference in the color. Kinda weird actually

yes, i see the same thing you do

the stock, nickel 19s or any chrome wheels are too bright for this color

the brembo or any argent, black painted wheels tone it down, make it look darker i think

the only times it really gets a purple hue is dusk, the parts in the shade and dirty, especially pollen it doesn't let the blue metallic shine through. honestly i dont mind the lil bit of purple tint give the metallic shift with lighting some character.
