K&N Filter

Dropped in a k&n filter on my 12 Kona V6. Mileage up just a bit and acceleration off the line up too.

On a V6? Might want to search this. A site did a dyno test and found the drop in K&N actually LOST HP (about 2 HP) with the drop in filter over using just the stoc filter. Interesting....perhaps having a lifetime filter is worth the slight loss though. No one is going to notice 2 hp except a dyno.

Are there better options for hi flow drop in air filters?

I had one on my f150, couldn't really tell any difference and worried about the filter oil getting into the intake every time I cleaned and recharged it.

Anyone found a drop in high flow that doesn't use oil to recharge the filter?

Yep, AEM has this one: http://www.aemintakes.com/search/pro...?Prod=28-20431 You have to clean it occasionally but no oiling.

Update same driving that I do everday ave mpg has gone up 25.5 to 25.8 not much but I'll take it. 70 miles a day. Still feels a little quiker. I know its not a 5.0 but it is fast and easy to ge around for my DD. Won't have to replace fiter all the time too.

For some reason my MPG last week was 13.2. It has nothing to do with sitting in Alexandria traffic and construction, and everything to do with my stock intake being installed.

all pure speculation. It happens. We create placebos because we want to believe in stuff like that.

Like when I used to swear up and down that my CAI, full exhaust, and no cats and better gearing made my old Camaro faster, and then I lost to a 100% stock one that had a 10hp increase from my model year.

The point is that the new filter is doing nothing for this guy, and is likely actually starving it of air. We just want to believe that mod money is making our cars faster.

^ yep. I felt pretty sick after spending the cash on a k&n drop in and then reading the dyno test results. But I wasn't hard headed about it, I took it right back out and went back to stock. K&N drop in for sale, barely used ~ 20 miles on it!

It is the placebo effect brother. Your car is not any quicker with just a filter lol...if anything it is slower.

So..... I need a new filter for my 5.0. You're all saying not to get a Cai, and also not to use a k&n. sooo just get a stock filter or what? Lol

Save a buck and the landfill, buy a K&N or equivalent.

I can see a slight and I mean SLIGHT gain from a CAI (hell i have one, and plan to waste more money on a different one that doesn't cause my car to surge and stall) But the K&N... it's mostly hype. There is gain with an open element filter, but also suddenly you have heat soak too. Major increase in IATs unless moving at a decent clip.

You shouldn't buy the rechargeable filter for hp you should buy it for the reasons I stated, Dani
