Arrow Interesting discussion at the Camaro5 forums

Check it out. Seems even they are realizing that Ford did underrate the 2011 GT..
I'll say this. The discussion has been mostly on topic and dare i say, unbiased, by most.

They almost seem to be discussing things seriously!

Though what is this guy even talking about?

"I will say the Mustang under braking is miserable and has awful modulation, that was my most lasting first impression."

I honestly have never heard such things before, anyone know what he's going on about? I can only assume he's dissing the brakes, and I do notice that the brakes are standard, no Brembo package.

Oh, yeah, they already did the "back end is ugly" spiel. Now they're trying to reason out how a 412 HP engine dynos 369 peak rear wheel horsepower on 93 Octane without the LS3 being worse. They started by saying it's all a more efficient drive train, then some guy said that it's because of the live axle's "simplicity" that makes all the horsepower, essentially implying that the Mustang is putting down such power because of its ancient drive train technology, haha. They haven't yet considered that the dyno run was with 93 octane, and the 412 HP rating was made assuming 91 octane. This bodes well, as it may show evidence that higher than recommended octane gas does increase power.

Interesting bit is this:

"93-octane numbers are in:

369rwhp and 357 ft/lbs

She picked up 6whp and tied the SS in peak power "

Alas, they didn't post the chart for this one.

Camaro rear end isn't anything to write home about.

I don't believe there is any doubt about this, the only question is how much. Ford says 10 HP. From what I've seen from tests, it looks like anywhere from 6-10 RWHP.

No it isnt. I got a good look at one yesterday and that car is big. It looks as heavy as it is.

Can the ls3 run on regular?

Standard S197 brakes SUCK for tracking the car, you have to upgrade pads, fluids and rotors if you plan on going to a road courses.

The owners manual says you can, but it also warns of knocking/pinging...

I had a good bit of seat time in the SS at the GM proving grounds not too long ago, then drove a manual 2011 GT vert the other night, and they are night and day different in terms of driving. The trans. on the Camaro is very clunky and uninspiring, where the GT is smooth, and the shifter is very confident. The Camaro feels heavy, even on smooth pavement and on an autocross course. It had a bad case of body roll, and just didn't drive like I'd expect. Driving the Mustang is another story. Very refined, very easy to drive. Smooth all over, not nearly as much body roll, and very easy to predict where it's going.

Bottom line, they can dog the Mustang all they want, but it's on the track/street where the Mustang shines and shows the Camaro who's boss.

Pre-2011, I agree. For 2011, though, even the non-Brembo brakes are much, much-improved.

I don't know why, but I'm just not a fan of the Camaro tail lights.

If the Camaro was 300 lbs lighter, I'd give it SERIOUS consideration.

Well....IRS...hmmm....would have to think about that (being a knuckle-dragging drag racer and all).

I always thought the same thing but always figured it was just me... And IMHO the 2010+ rearends look great to me... The Maros will probly be getting more familiar with them so they might as well get used to'em...

The white doesn't flatter it. I think it'd look good in a different color though.

Anyway, the thread has pretty devolved into a flame war. They're arguing back and forth about Solid Rear Axle VS Independent Rear Wheel Suspension, and also called the 5.0 an import motor and not a muscle motor like their push-rod LS3, and now they seem convinced that the Mustangs will all end up in ditches the first time they encounter a stick on a sharp turn, and are similarly convinced that their Camaros will handle that turn no problem at the same speed.
