Immediate-sudden a/c issue

I went for a drive today and about 1/2 hour into it the a/c just stopped blowing cold air. Fan worked ok but no cold or even cool air. Normal/max/recirc nothing. If it was just needing a re-charge I would have thought it would gradually gotten less efficient, not stopped "cold"-so to speak. I've had it over 5 years and don't recall if it had ever been serviced, so likely it hadn't. Was like stepping back to the '60s except for no wing windows. Also its been over 95 for 20 of the last 29 days and 102 at the time it failed. So, are there any weak points in the system that I should have them start looking at? 5.0 GT with a/t.

When it happened to me, the compressor basically grenaded and killed the system. My car was 5 years old with 78,000 miles. I needed a new compressor, condenser, dryer, and all the lines flushed. It sucked.

Just had mine fail yesterday. I was running 75mph with outside temp around 110. Last week it was even hotter. I have a quick reacting thermometer at the center register and the A/C clutch was cycling between 44-° and 40°. The clutch failed. I usually do all my own work but its too hot to do car work now. I'm having the compressor changed out also as it comes with 2 year warranty unlimited miles including labor. I know there have been many failures between 30 and 45k miles. Here in AZ these systems work extra hard. If you got 80k plus count yourself lucky. I think the parts aren't as good as they use to be.

Its beginning to sound of a theme. I also was running about 75mph and outside temp was 99-102. Its been a warm streak in a warm area. July has seen 22 of 31 days over 95, mostly over 100. Goes to the shop this am. Ford dealer couldn't get me in before Wed afternoon. Going with a trusted independent.
