I'm trying to get lower insurance on my 2011 Mustang GT

I had 2 tickets back in 2009, I did traffic school for both of them. ( Had to appear before a judge and he allowed me to do traffic school on the second offense. )

The insurance company shows that they are still showing the violations and my rates are not going to be dropping. Is this the case? I thought if you took traffic school it was taken care of.

Sometimes the tickets still appear, but the traffic school prevents points being added to your license.

Call your DMV/BMV and ask them

Around here taking a traffic school removes 2 points, but doesn't remove the offense from your record. Basically it gives you a little more breathing room if you are close to 12 points which is the threshold for automatic license suspension. Things vary from state to state though.

Assuming your points/incidents drop off after 3 years like they do here, I'd advise just biting the bullet and keep your record clean until your two tickets drop off next year, and hopefully your rates will go down then. You could look at chainging your deductibles to lower your premiums a bit.

I had trouble when I was younger, but have kept my record clean for the last 11 years, except for one out of state ticket last summer, which will show up on my record, but without points. My wife has been rather careless though, she has four speeding tickets in the last 2 1/2 years (none in the Mustang) with six points (one was out of state), but our insurance company doesn't routinely check our driving records, so no rate increase so far.

As stated above, the violations may have been reduced to zero points do to your taking of the traffic courses, however there are still violations on your record that an insurance company can see.

Your best bet for lower rates is to start bundling insurance with whatever else you have. nearly all major insurance companies provide multi-line discounts that can save you quite a bit of money. If you've got a home or apartment, plus a life or health policy, and even other cars, look for a company that you can combine all those policies under. You may find that you can save quite a bit of money.

There's other areas as well that can save you some dollars. Take roadside assistance off (since it's provided by ford), remove glass coverage, increase your deductibles to $1000.00. I don't recommend reducing the coverage limits to your state minimum. The difference between a 25,000 limit (most state's minimum) and 100,000 is usually not even $5.00 per month. However if you run a red light and total a $50,000 suv...you can see where that's going.

In many states, violations last about 3 years on your record before they drop. So at least with your violation in 2009, you might be getting close to having that violation fall off your record. Your best bet here is to keep up with a good driving record.

Especially with these cars, I realize that's sometimes harder said than done. But heading the posted limits and being a responsible driver in the public view can save you hundreds.

Also as previously stated you be surprised how much your premium will go down if you add like a renters policy.

I got married just to save on car insurance (eloped). In hindsight I wish I had just lied like pony racer

Actually marriage records are public records, and the SSA has that information. It's part of the freedom of information act.

Additionally, if they were to find out you lied, they have every right to cancel your coverage AND backcharge you for every cent they paid out making up the difference from single to married.

Lying on an insurance application IS illegal and is knowingly committing fraud. Yes, it's hard to get caught, and luckily you got away with it, but is in no way legal.

I don't recommend anyone take that route. The repercussions of getting caught aren't worth the risk.

The only reason you really got away with this is likely because you didn't have a claim.

In the event of a claim, you better believe insurance companies go over their books with a fine tooth comb so they only pay what they have to. Had they discovered your application was falsified, not only would they have denied the claim, but likely would have turned the case over to your state's Insurance commissioner who would likely file fraud charges.

No harm, no foul in your case, but it's certainly not advisable for anybody to do this. Get caught just once and the consequences are far more than had you just been truthful to begin with. Even if you're not hit with criminal charges.

You'd be as good as black listed with every major insurer, substantially increasing your rates for years to follow.
