There has been a lot of talk about this annoying noise over the few years that the 5.0s have been out. Not everyone gets it, for those who have it, it does't seem to happen all the time, etc.

Last I heard, there was no specific explanation for it either.

Well, after my most recent oil change at the dealership, I asked them to look for PCM updates that may be available and they just uploaded the most recent profile, whatever it was. Not sure if it's related or not but the car seems to have the ignitor tick now more than ever.

So my quetsion is this--- has the tick ever been identified as related to a failure?

Hello MRGTX,

I recommend bringing it in to your dealer and speaking to your service manager about this concern. He is in the best position to ensure a proper diagnosis, and provide available options and/or coverage for any work needed.

You can schedule an appointment online here. Let me know the outcome.

Thanks. My car had this occasionally in the past. I had the service department take a look a look last summer and of course, they couldn't replicate the noise. Isn't that always the way?

I'll mention it again while my car is in for its next service...

yeah, that sucks for sure! maybe just make note a few notes when it does happen.

how fast your driving, weather conditions, did you just start it? was it raining, is it raining?

all of these things may help you figure out a way to reproduce the issue.....

The only problem I had with my 2011 was the stretchy belt problem. It sounded like
a rod coming out of the side of the block.

No problem, MRGTX. Be sure to go on a test drive with the tech or the service advisor if needed.

I just dropped my 2014 Mustang GT at the dealership for this very thing. For me it happens mainly when under light load between 1-2k rpms like cruising through a parking lot. lately it has gotten a little louder, and now also happens at idle. It only happens once the engine has been warmed up to operating temperatures. It happened before the 1st oil change, and has gotten slightly worse since then. I just put my second oil change in it Thursday, no change.

Here is a video I took Thursday night 6/26/14

. My friends 2011 makes a noise like that when cold at 1600 Rpms. If he revs past 1600 Rpms it goes away. What solved the problem?

My noise was at idle and this fixed it.
