That they don't have to "HOLD" the key in the start position to start the engine?

I did notice it recently. I went to start the car and my fingers slipped off of the key as soon as I hit it. It kept turning over until it fired. Kind of freaked me out for a minute.

Most don't know about it or realize it until for some reason they start to start the motor and for some reason they decide they didn't want it to start after all and let off the key and it keeps on turning over and starting. Then they come on the forum asking about it thinking that something must be wrong with their car or that they have a demon inside the steering column...

I did exactly that. I don't like that sound!! Why would I want it again? I start her up old fashioned style.

It's a very dangerous condition. If I had planned to "stop" starting the car because I saw my loved ones still in the engine bay, and then it started... I fear mangulation. I'm surprised the government still allows me to drive the car out of my garage. Shame on them.

I mention no names in this thread, except for Jesus.

Which makes me wonder why Ford didn't just give us a Push Button to start the car once you've inserted and turned the key? Sound's like all the electronics are in place for such.

What?!! You can start it by turning the key another notch? I guess now I can stop parking on a hill for that rolling jump start. Is this in the owner's manual? Might have to contact NHTSA on this.

Lots of cars don't even require you to put a key in, just have it with you when you are in the car and push the button to start.

Yea I have been really curious as to why the manufacturer's are still issuing keys, the ignition cylinder hasn't done anything in the traditional sense in a decade.

The flip side of the question, how many people realize that if you do HOLD the key past the time the engine starts, or accidentally attempt to "re-start" a running engine, it will have no effect. No more accidental starter grind

I wouldn't want a push button. That's just a little too euro for me.

If they are going with a key for the next generation Mustang, well they'd better put it in the dash just like my '69 Mach1. No better feeling than putting your key in the lower right side of the steering wheel . If else, well put a start button and i'll be a happy camper.

Cool Memories

This kinda reminds me of when fuel injection came to everyday cars.
You would see a lot of people still pushing down the gas pedal before starting to "set the choke" that didn't exist anymore.

I knew. Got a question though, has your car ever taken a few extra seconds to start? Most of the time mine starts right away but sometimes it takes several seconds and it feels like it's not going to start at all and then does. Anyone ever experience this?

Hmmm never so long that it doesn't seem normal. Maybe 1 1/2 to 2 seconds after I initialize the start.

It might not be more than 2 seconds but it just seems weird. It's only done it twice though.
