I need some Good Sticky Tires

I finally got my 2014 gt mustang back from the body shop from my $5000 deer hit and want to upgrade my tires. A little history with my vehicle, it has the Brembo package, 19inch rims all around, and 3.73 rear. What is the best tires I can get for traction and all around driving without breaking the bank. Thanks in advance.

I assume we're talking summer tires, right?

275 is as wide as you'll want to go on the BBP 9" wheels.

Most folks go for MPSS...but they're spendy

Even better (based on what I have read...) would be the Dunlop Direzza Star Spec but they're only available in 275/35/19 so on a stock ride hieght, they might look goofy since they're a bit shorter...but they're supposedly amazing tires.

I just got Continental Extreme Contact DW tires and love them.

On our 19's you can go 255/40-19 all the way around

I'm pretty sure that the stock weight of the Pirelli tires are 28LBS per.

I'm eyeballing these tires in the next year, possibly two. (depending how fast I kill these tires)


If you look at the specs. they have TONS more tread to burn through and are 25LBS per tire. that is freeing up A LOT of unsprung weight. Your car will feel like it will fly around corners by achieving little things like this. oh yeah, they are also cost effective tires. of course, do lots of research before investing on anything

really...3 pounds per tire will make a huge difference?

Seeing as the weight is almost entirely at the perimeter of the tire, it will (in theory, the actual calculations are more involved) free up extra ft-lbs that initially went to simply rotating the extra mass of the tire. In this case, you'd free up 6-8ft-lbs at the rear wheels.

3lbs of unsprung weight per corner, Yep - I believe it would. Most of you guys driving GT's probably don't care because your cars already have so much power and torque. But it does matter.


There's all kinds of information on this splattered all over the web but here is a quickie on my take


- Less unsprung weight means better handling
- Less unsprung weight is less weight for your engine to start spinning
- less wheel weight is less weight for your brakes to stop spinning




I believe that 1lb of unsprung weight is equivalent to reducing your car by 3.3lbs of sprung weight. I'm not sure exactly what the formula is, but its something around that.
