I hate to be the noob but

I'm in the market for a 2011-2013 Mustang and I was just wondering what things to look for regarding common problems ( If I do look into used) so it would help me a ton!
Wish list is a premium v6 in race red or kona blue, stick shift of course
and how much I should be paying ( a range ) would be nice help. I've researched and lurked the forums so I do have a ball park figure, but an accurate figure from users helps a lot too!

Thanks

Common issue is a missfire on cylinders 7 and 8.

Haha alright, but wouldn't it throw that up on the engine code? I meant more along the lines of like the infamous early 2000s pontiac dash cracking and just odd things like that!

I recently bought a GT. We were in the market for a used one, but we found a new demo cheaper than a used one, so we went with that. I haven't heard of any really bad mechanical problems with the v6 models in all my reading, though. I'm sure v6 owners will be able to give you better advice here. Most of the issues I've seen are transmission related. You may want to stay away from the early 2011s. They had lots of transmission noise/grind/whine issues, and the v6 uses the same tranny as the v8. It's under a lot less stress in the v6, though, so the problems probably aren't nearly as bad.

All Mustangs since 2005 have tended to have hood paint bubbling on the aluminum. My wife's 05 did it and I've read of 2012s even doing it, so take a REALLY close look at the front edge of the hood top and bottom. If it looks like it's been repainted, you might want to steer clear. They usually will bubble again.

If I were you, I'd definitely try to find a v6 performance pack model. It's gonna be a lot more fun and is a real bargain for the hardware you get--GT suspension and summer tires, 3.31 axle, GT brakes, strut tower brace, biggger wheels, etc.

As for price, I have no clue on a v6. We paid $30800 for a loaded 2012 GT that stickered for 41k with 8000 miles if that helps any.

Good luck

Even if that was true I don't think that would be a problem for him since he's looking for a V6.

I'm not new to cars whatsoever haha I just didn't catch it since in my mind I'm in the market for both v6 and v8

I will look out for the paint bubble and stay away from 2011s altogether then.

Thanks for all the advice and some early trolling

So are you going to buy two cars, a V6 & V8 Mustang?

Best thing to do would be read through this section of the forum, especially the Warranty & Service issues section. However, remember that what you're reading on here is a very, very small sample size of the total Mustang owner population - just because five people have a problem with the paint on their hoods, for example, doesn't mean there's an impending recall for all 150,000+ Mustangs of the past three years.

There are a few different TSBs out there on our cars, as there are with EVERY car on the market.

Overall, both the V6 and GT models are reliable, well-built cars that you can expect a long life out of. Buy with confidence.

I love my GT - no problems, no issues. It is perfect in every way. I even kiss her goodnight (wife gets jealous).

There are a lot more than 5 people with the paint bubbling issue. My wife comes from a Mustang family. Her father, 2 of her cousins, and several people in our local MCA chapter have the paint bubbling issue. It's a known and common issue on 05+ Mustangs and something I'd definitely look for on a used car. I agree some of issues mentioned in forums are overblown, but this is not one of them.

Yeah I'd love a 5.0, but I can't afford the premium and I love the track apps and the screen, and also all the color changes so I think I'm gonna go for the v6 premium, it's either luxury or power, and I'm going for luxury this time.

I went through this but after the dealer didn't want to haggle on a 2012 gt 401a with brembo package to a price I liked and I drove the gt I ended up having to have the 5.0 and so I have been working ot every week and in a couple weeks I will have my 13 gt premium.
