I was afraid this was going to happen
So I was doing some work last weekend on a Tesla model S p85D, and after experiencing Insane acceleration mode all weekend (0-60 in 3.2s) my Mustang feels .... dare I say it .... SLOW. I knew this was gonna happen. ****!
I was happy to get back into my car, and I happily laid down some rubber on the way out of the parking lot. But now full throttle feels kinda eh

I test drove a Tesla Model S at a car show in Hilton Head a couple of years ago. Impressive car! If I had $100K burning a hole in my pocket, I'd consider one. It was a cool show...manufacturers had new cars there to test drive, including Jaguar, Porsche, BMX. Mercedes, Audi, etc. I drove the Tesla just for the novelty of driving an electric and walked away impressed. I wanted to drive a 911, but they were out of slots the day I was there. y wife also test a convertible Jag F Type and a 4 series BMW. She loved the Jag but was unimpressed by the BMW.

The Tesla is the future. I love my mustang, but there's something to be said about a zero emission car that is fast as hell. I just don't like the way it looks and it has no sound. The roadster looks better and is even faster than the model S. Unfortunately both of these cars are way out of my price range. For the price of a Mustang GT, you get a lot of performance and it's still fun to daily drive.

Tesla Model S 85D - 0 to 60 = 3.2, 1/4 = 11.6, starting @ 105K
.
.......There is also a S 90D model that does a 10.9 1/4, starting @ 119K
.
14 Shelby GT500 - O to 60 = 3.5, 1/4 = 11.6, starting @ 54.8K
.
The #'s are impressive, as long as you don't include price !!

The great thing about Tesla is that Musk is also building up a charging station infrastructure. The cars are pricey, but I'd hope that as the technology matures, the prices will come down. Of course being an engineer and tech geek, I'm a fan of Tesla and SpaceX.

As electric cars evolve and components become cheaper I agree with you. I'd love to have an electric drivetrain in my car. I would miss the roar of the Coyote though.
I'm an engineer too, and I appreciate the cool factor of this technology as well

Totally know what you mean! Before my mustang, I DD a 2011 Elantra (6 speed)
Yeah, it only has 148HP. Imagine how I felt after driving my friends 2012 Lexus LSF (417HP, 8 speed Auto tranny)
Took me months to get that lexus out of my head

I'm torn on this one.
I'm a model airplane pilot and I came on board with the hobby just as LiPo batteries and brushless motors were arriving on the scene. In the past 10 years, they've surpassed IC (nitro or gasoline usually) power systems in every way. They're cheaper, more reliable, longer lasting, cleaner, easier to set up and vastly quieter. I fly only electric and I have no urge to go back to IC.
When it comes to a car, the experience is the most critical thing and the living, breathing (literally), throbbing heart under the hood is part of that experience. No matter how fast, I'm not sure if an electric car will ever push my buttons in the same way.
I admire and respect what can be done fairly easily with electric cars but so far, they don't reach me on an emotional level.

What does it take to charge a Tesla? 60 minutes?
Refuel a Mustang? 5 minutes
Try taking the Tesla on a road trip more than an hour, and I bet the Mustang starts feeling better. The Tesla is just not practical yet. Drive an hour. Sit an hour, and I bet it is worse when u gun it all the time or drive too fast for a long time.
Don't expect electric cars in Nascar till the batteries last longer, LOL.
But yeah the electric with no shifting is a plus and will shame gas cars eventually.

Tesla has a range of around 250 miles, which is less than a tank of fuel, but respectable for an electric. If your route takes you to one of Tesla's charging stations, you can charge it in 30 minutes. If you gas and go, then this is obviously longer. If you get out, hit the restroom, pick up a snack and drink, the wait isn't as bad.

Every electric car I've ever seen or heard about advertises a range that is never actually appreciable.

I doubt you'd get the advertised range if you drove like that. But, you don't get the advertised mileage in your gasoline car either if you drive like that. To me the Tesla is missing one thing though...that great V-8 sound that is so intoxicating.

Funny thing is there is an option to pump race car sound into the cockpit via the speakers, which made me lough and turn it off immediately. It is missing the sound to match the performance, but fake sounds are a step too far IMO.
