IIRC it was more like 1hp/year (10hp over 10 yrs, think the car was in excess of 100k), although it's not the years, its the miles.

Sorry I can't be more specific. I'll try to hunt sometime.

It surprised me a bit that a number of sources cite ticking with all synth. Ford has done OHC for many many years. They recommend synth-blend for a reason.
Like I said, it depends on the engine. Lower performance engines loose less performance because they don't have the high compression and tight tolerances of today's engines. A little engine wear doesn't effect them as much.

For example, the Nissan 3.0 liter V6 from the 1990s that powered the 300ZX was only a 7.8:1 compression engine, and the V6 in the current Mustang is 10.5:1. Back in the 80s a 10.5:1 compression was only found in racing engines.

Also you have to remember the oil change interval. I doubt anyone running the old dino oil was driving 10,000 miles between oil changes for very long. An engine running modern synthetic oil will have less engine wear after 10,000 miles than an engine running dino oil will have after just 3,000 miles.

Will Synthetic Blend cure the tick?

I don't know. I have a 4.6L and I don't have the 5.0 tick issue.

I use the M synth blend 5w-20 as recommended, and my engine has that nice mild clickity clack and whir of an OHC. No resounding tick.

I change oil once/year per my driving (which is 3-5k/yr) right before winter storage. Which I'm going out to do right now.

I still wonder if the 5.0 tick issue is because the TiVCT uses 'cam torque action', rather than all hydraulic action like the 4.6 VCT. Perhaps that 'backlash' so to speak adds extra strain on the 5.0's valve train, creating the noise in a number of engines. Just a thought.

What is wrong with Motocraft syn. blend? My dealer uses it in my new GT. Also what engine uses only 5 qts. of oil on a oil and filter change?

If you have a 5.0 the dealer should be putting 8 quarts of oil in it.

This actually is really good oil. I'm sure not as good as Mobil 1 and Royal Purple but for 17 bucks for 5 quarts full synthetic base III oil. Winner winner winner as well. Lmao
