How many of you change your oil by the OLM?

I was wondering how many of you use the OLM(Oil Life Monitor) to change your oil by? I've only had one vehicle that had this system(2004 Monte Carlo SS) and I didn't use it. I'm old school and am still used to changing by mileage. I'm having a hard time convincing myself to use this system on my 2014 GT. Thanks for any input.

I change my oil every 5k. My car doesn't have a monitor but I will still change it every 5k.

I have mine set at 50% and it reminds me at 4500 miles to change it, at 5000 miles it just says change oil now.

I don't use the monitor either. I change every 5K miles. I currently have 12K miles on the 2012 GT, so I've only changed it twice. The dealer recommended their synthetic blend. I wasn't sure what that was, but I went along with their recommendation. Should I have opted for something else?

I think my car uses about a quart every 5K miles. It's currently at about 12,500, and my oil level is halfway between the dip stick dots. I'm guessing that's a half quart. If not, someone correct me. Also, I'm not sure why the Mustang uses oil. Is that common in performance cars?

I do plan on using the Motorcraft 5W-20 synthetic blend and Motorcraft filter but am still undecided if I'm going to use the OLM. My original plan was to change every 5,000 miles like I do on my fiancée's 2007 GT but her car does not have an OLM. Other people have told me that the OLM is pretty accurate and I should go by it. They said the 8 quart sump is why it can go longer.

Michael Broadway,
I don't know if you have an oil catch can on your car but if you don't, the oil that is disappearing may be going through your PCV valve and going back into your intake. I have one on my car and I had about 3 oz of oil in it after about 2,400 miles.

Thanks everyone for the input. Keep it coming.

I'll be at about 5k miles on my current M1 5w50 when I change it next month. I will get an analysis done on it to better judge how long I should go next time

Don't know if I have OLM, probably not something I will pay attention to

If it was a Ford dealer it should just be motorcraft 5w20 that they used. Sure it was at top of the stick after oil change? A lot off times the recommended amount hits right in the middle of the dots

Change my oil every 6 months. Around 1,800 to 2,700 miles. Oil change display says high 60% to low 70%. Motorcraft 'full' synthetic

Recommend every year or every 5,000 miles, which ever comes first. You could probably go to 7500 or so miles, but only if you are changing your oil more frequently...like every 6-9 months or so.

The car comes with the MotorCraft Synthetic blend from the factory and there's nothing wrong with that oil. Nor is there anything wrong with going by the OLM; it's designed to give accurate oil change intervals, as are the similar systems in pretty much every car now. I've changed mine at 5K and had oil analysis done by Blackstone, who told me the oil was good until at least 7,500. Granted, I'd used full synthetic but still.

There's tons of threads on oil to read if you want, so I'll end with this: changing at less than 5k is idiotic unless you're consistently tracking the car, and going by the OLM doesn't make you less of a man nor are you abusing your car.

Same here....usually change sometime in May...a few less miles this year (only about 1300 so far this year, 4,775 total).....will be getting it ready to store soon. Sucks I have been sick (bronchitis/asthma) this weather would be great for some driving. But I got my meds so hopefully today or tomorrow will get her out.

The GT: Sense I no longer use her for DD duties I change out the oil twice a year.. usually in the fall & the spring, though this year I changed it in mid summer cause she had a good workout while down at Mustang Week. Mobil 1 5W20 - FRPP filter

The 6'er: After the first few changes, we went to 5k changes. Then she got a job about 80 miles (each way) away, so she started following the OLM. When it gets around 20%-15% we go ahead and change it. She has 58,500 miles on the 6'er so far and she's a 2012!!! Avg. 33-34mpg right now. Mobil 1 5W20 - Motorcraft filter

The Raptor: After the first few changes, I'm going to goto 5k changes. Mobil 1 5W20 - FRPP filter
