Thanks for posting the video on the Boss 302 (that's how I close my hood with the Redlines installed, and people look at me like I'm crazy). Just lift it about 12" from closed and let it go... The rest of that video is pretty cool too!

I like how Leno disses the Shelby at the end of the video in favor of the Boss 302... I'd go one further and suggest that a GT with the Track Package is a bit nicer than the Boss 302 (but I'll admit to some bias). The reason being you can order a lot more "extras" on the non-Boss version (like a glass roof) and- with even the mild FRPP tune- you're giving up all of 8hp or so.

That prop rod was just awful- went to my first cruise and, like you said- OUCH!

So from the video, without the strut hood, he slammed down the hood. Can you slam it down WITH the strut hood? Or do you just push it down? Does the hood strut disengage when it is low, so you can slam it down?

I especially like the "no need for a CAI".......around the 5:20 time frame.

I got mine from CJ Pony Parts for the regular $89.99 with free shipping. If you buy before August 31st, CJ has included these in their 20% off sale.

The struts don't disengage, but as the hood goes low enough the leverage of the hood overcomes the pressure in the struts.

^^^ What he said... the struts exert upward force when the hood opens past 50% or so, but loose resistance once the hood gets below 50%.

Really well-designed... I'm sure some engineer would explain it has to do with the mounting points, leverage, and compression rates of the struts or something. As Missouri Hoss mentioned, one strut by itself is sufficient to hold the hood up.

Now the question is, how much would it REALLY cost Ford to install struts than that awful prop rod?

I think it's like it has become a tradition at Ford to use the prop rod on Mustang hoods, they have been using them for 35 years now!

Prop rod probably costs Ford less than a dollar, struts would probably be 25 times that, so the bean counters won that argument.

I thought prop rod were a thing of the past until I noticed my friend's Infiniti G35 S has one too. Also know the 2005 RAV4 uses prop rod too.

Plus Jay Leno prefers the rod....

I can't get the 80.00 price online tonight even though they are listed as being in the 20% off sale. Their online support told me that 89.99 is the sale price.

I'll have to call them tomorrow to see what's up since even Redline has them listed as 89.99 on their site.

If you don't drop your hood down and close it with your palms over time you will dent your aluminum hood. I have seen this done over the years on aluminum hoods that were closed improperly. Believe it or not it will happen eventually.

Your wording there is weird. Are u saying closing with your palms is bad? Or dropping it is bad? Or other

If you press down on top of the hood to make sure the latch catches, you'll eventually develop dents in the hood. If you drop it, the latch catches properly. You're not going to damage the hood by dropping it. Now, if you take it all the way to the top, jump up in the air and slam it down with all your weight and effort, sure, you'll end up with a warped hood. But I would LIKE to think that Mustang owners don't have to be told not to do that.

I always drop mine from about 12 to 18 inches from closed. Works like a charm and agree that this is how they are intended to be closed.

Don't remember now where mine came from but it was a $79.99 sale, not any % off.

Their customer service line said that the price changed a few days ago but they've not updated the website yet. They won't honor the sale price even though the item is tagged as such on their site.

I've heard about issues like this with purchases from CJ Pony Parts from others and I guess their negative experience is now mine as well. Time to scratch them off as my source for the list of mods that I have queued up.

Yup, see a lot of that kind of experience comments about them. Do a google search for the redline struts, probably some other source out there that has them at a discount.
