Home made wood ramps.

Finally finished them, took about 2 hours to build. I tried them and it works really well, very gradual climb, and easy to get onto them all the way to the top. You could not get a set like these with aftermarket. They weigh in at about 60-70lbs, and with the 45 degree angle cut i made to each step, it is a breeze climbing up. Clears the front plastic deflector even with a 1" drop and i don't think the 1.5 " drop would be a problem either. So Panhard bar is scheduled for tomorrow, and oil change this week. This was a father and son ( 11 yo) project, which is cool.

I've got a set of Rhino ramps from Autozone right now, and they work fine for most passenger cars. I'm going to pick up a set of Race Ramps and tire cribs once the car gets here. I almost got them when I had the 6 lowered, but built a buffer instead. It worked alright, but the RR are higher and have a longer approach, and are still light enough to move around with ease.

I made myself some wood ramps earlier this year. I used some scrap 2x10 lumber I had laying around and some deck screws. Took me about an hour at most, was free, and I use them all the time now. Mine are only a two-step version, but that is still high enough for me to do muffler swaps and oil changes, and keeps the weight down. I put some anti-slip drawer liner under them to keep them from sliding, and cut 45 degree angles into the front of each step. I'll eventually make a bigger and heavier 3 or 4 step version, but these have worked great for me for now. I do have some ramps I've had around for 20 years or so, but I have a racedeck style plastic tile floor in my garage, and they go sliding across the floor with just about any car I try to pull up onto them.

Off-topic, but where was your small exhaust leak? My 5.0 has one too and I haven't found it--yet.

So I took the X - Pipe off cleaned up all the pipes and joints and used some Permatex Ultra Copper on the X - Pipe flanges and the pipes coming from the cats.
I also sealed the joints around the slip on connectors that connect the rear of the X - Pipe the the rear pipes going to the mufflers.

The ramps could be lightened by cutting a oval at the stacked section on the concealed wood.
The thing I nevel like about ramps is driving past the end causing a partial drop.
Jack stands are my preference.
A short version of these ramps to raise a lowered vehicle addresses the heavy / large ramp issue, while still permitting usage of a jack / jack stands.
Never work on a vehicle supported only by a jack!

I will tackle on this project tomorrow. Tired of using the lift and jackstands all the time, i want something fast, secure and simple to just lift the 'Stang high enough to do some work underneath, like oil change and some other easy to do projects. Here is a shetch i found over at Mustangworld.
Mine will be built using treated wood, so they can stay outside under the deck all year long.
