Hissing sound when turning key to ON mode.

Hearing a loud hissing sound coming from the dashboard area when I turn my key to ON position. Any idea why? Had the AC on, so I turned it off...tried again and still making the same hissing sound for 1 second or so.

Hissing sound when turning key to ON mode.

It's the fuel pump pressurizing the lines in preparation for a startup. Be worried when it doesn't make that noise.

^This
I agree that this is the noise.

Do fuel pumps fail frequently on modern cars?

Seems like this could be bad, especially if they fail gradually and lean out the mixture on their way out.

Yup, fuel pump. Really missed that sound after I installed my bags and the car wouldn't make it anymore to start lol.

Yup its the fuel pump. Every car I have owned has done this. You usually dont hear it bc you either start the egine right away or have some other noise/thought distracting you.
