High pitched whistle noise

When I go over 65mph I consistently get a quiet but audible high pitched noise inside the cabin. Anyone else have that problem?

It's a whine from the diff, part of the track package. I have it too, I'm assuming it's just an annoyance. Same mph/ rev range

Can anyone else chime in to see if this is normal?

Is there a big supercharger sitting on top of the engine?

Most people get diff whine, IMO it's normal, because racecar.

It sounds more than a whistle than a whine.

No its a coupe, the sound tube has both baffles still inside it.

Yea I am told it is the Track Pack rear. Mine has it.It whines at that speed gets worse then goes away if you go fast enough. Does anyone know if there is an oil that will calm it down? It gets real annoying if I go out with My Girlfriend and we want to talk... Yes I know here it comes..

I have the track package and haven't noticed any noise besides the tires on the road. You didn't happen to have your windshield replaced recently, did you?

While I have owned the car no, I'm not sure whether the previous owner had it replaced. Can I tell from looking at the etched numbers? I thought it could be the windscreen seal pinched underneath somewhere. If you would like to take a listen we can meet, i'm just south of Castle Rock.

I'll turn my head tomorrow when I am driving it.

I would be glad to take a look at it with you and show you what I've learned. Not sure if it will be helpful or not but I'm willing to share. I am at my store for most of the day tomorrow. I won't have my mustang with me due to that I still haven't finished trimming the interior panels from my Silverhorse racing louvers.

Have you addressed this with your Ford Dealer yet, trackpack13gt? What have they said?

I've not had the chance to take the car to the ford dealer. I spoke to them over the phone and they said the extended warranty doesn't cover noises, creeks etc.

Rumor has it that Lucas 85-140W Non-Synthetic gear oil is the ticket for quieting down a whiny/noisy rear diff. This is what Strange Engineering supplies and recommends in their axle housings. I have read many first-hand accounts of this particular gear oil working well to quiet things down. Google it and you should be able to notice the same.

Even my 3.15 rear 6R80 auto rear diff has had a prominent whine at almost all speeds 40 MPH and above since new. I can modulate the pitch of the whine by getting on/off the throttle. When I get around to purchasing a Watts link for my car I will definitely be switching to Lucas 85-140W Non-Synthetic + Ford friction modifier.

I understand, trackpack13gt. I’m not sure what ESP you have, but if it’s a Ford ESP, you can check your coverage here.

Make sure everything is tight around the door seals and the front of the car (the oil pan cover, rubber air deflector etc)
