I love HIDs but I hate the cross-eyed design. I wish there was a way like this^ , standard design, but HID assembly incorporated into the halogen assembly.

please please please do not run and HID kit in your stock housing!! Your blinding every motorist on the road...If your going to run HIDs please do it with projectors for the sake of everyone out on the road

Visibility wise there is no comparison when you take a look at halogens and hid's...HID's just light up the road way better

This is one of the things I'm really on the fence about in the 2011 that I'm looking at getting this year. Does anyone know the specs on the factory HIDs are? Color temperature, etc? Because I was thinking I'd get the HIDs from the factory, then match the fogs via a conversion kit similar to http://store.nexternal.com/shared/St...rce=googlebase

Thoughts?

P.S. - Looks like they also sell conversion kits for High/Low beam for ~$150. If I went HID, would you recommend buying these conversion kits instead of getting them from the factory?

 

factory HID's are usually 4300k, best visibility is with 4300k bulbs

 

and conversions kits do not have projectors..which is the main aspect of HIDs...if you do not have a projector focusing the light, the light will be all over the place, and not be as effective and blind everyone like i mentioned above

 

Definitely a worthwhile upgrade, I highly suggest it.

For comparison:

-My car now (07 Speed6) has OEM HIDs in 4300k, projector housing, with a 3-position leveling motor. Bright as can be at night, good field of view. I upgraded to a 6000k bulb for a little bit 'cooler' white (slight tint of blue, think LED white). I also added the fogs. My friend has a 2009 Fusion with 8000k 55w aftermarket HIDs in a non-projector housing. Mine BY FAR outshine his, even with his having a higher wattage.

If you value visibility at night, do the OEM HIDs and you won't be disappointed. Sure it's a more expensive option than the aftermarket, but it's not just bulbs like others have mentioned. Besides, you can add HIDs to the fogs to match if you choose, and that isn't expensive.

 

What Ford should have done in the first place IMO.

This is the only reason why i am not getting HID's from the factory.

 

I'm still entertaining the thought of getting the factory HID option, then picking up a set of non-HID housings, and custom retrofitting the projectors into the non-HID housings, like the chop above.

 

It'll look good, but be a very time consuming and somewhat expensive option.

Actually I think a big reason folks don't want to get them from the factory is because yo MUST get the security package in order to get the HIDs. That's why I don't want them. Total cost comes out to like $900 or something ridiculous like that. Yeah they look a little weird, but I think their effectiveness outweighs that.

 

HID functionality is unquestionably better than halogen, but the stock ford HID housings look terrible compared to the halogen housings.

I really think the move to the inner portion of headlamp was a packaging constraint more than an aesthetic one.

 

I actually like the view of not having the yellow in the car's headlight when the parking lamps are not lite. (the current HID setup) as opposed to having it there (your chop). One of the reasons I wanted the HID's. Plus it stems away from the whole "eye ball" movement of the 05-09's. But to each his own...
