Wink Hey, from northern Michigan

Been watching this forum for awhile, interesting and at times amusing. Seems like overall a nice bunch of people. Is 'bunch' a proper term for people?
Anyway, I've been driving a Mercedes 560SL for the past several years, just sold it a few months ago.
That was my first convertible and I can't go without a drop-top again. It was a lot of fun but I never got totally comfortable in it - I'm 6'4".
I've been on the prowl for another convertible, wanted the SL550 but still feel cramped, ditto with the Boxster and the Carrera still wasn't a good fit. To me the Carrera is only good for going really fast up the on-ramp so it really wasn't worth $100K to me anyway.
My son has a 99 'stang which also is too small.
I had a 2010 GT ordered but quickly stopped the order when I heard of the new engine in '11.
Now I am just waiting until 1-18-11 to get my order in. I really like the look all around (including the back end) and I seem to fit nicely in it. I just keep waffling between stick or automatic.

Hey bud, let me be the 1st to welcome you to the site. Its a WONDERFUL group of people who are all enthusiasts of our favorite Pony Car!!! CONGRATS on wanting a 2011. I should have the Order Guide on Monday (I hope, fingers crossed) for everyone to check out and for those who want to get their options set to order.

Welcome man. Def get the stick! I drove a 2010 GT at the San Diego Auto Show with a manual and it was lovely hearing the engine louder with the top down!

Does anyone know if there is an aftermarket dash insert for the 2010 gt. I like the brushed aluminum but wish it were darker. I don't care so much for the textured look with the 401A package.

Check out the new GT/CS dash. Looks like carbon fiber trim. I'm sure it will be available soon, and if not I'm sure Roush is working on one too.

Welcome!

I can so relate! Those 560SL's are great when kept properly. Few years ago, we had a 1987 560SL and at the same time a 2007 SL55 AMG. (a 20 year gap in the premium Mercedes roadsters.) Then in 2008 traded both of them for one of the first 2009 SL63s.

I enjoyed the hell outta the 560. Fun car for being 20 years old. Ours was super clean, low miles (under 50k), all original (minus a new rag top.), very classic. Just a great car! Tho yea tight for taller/bigger people being that the steering wheel was so massive.

But yea, welcome- and enjoy the wait for your 2011.

[QUOTE=2010MustangGT;5797921]Welcome!

I thought my 560 had a lot of guts, it could really move out. Only ~228 HP but still weighed 4,000#, so either I have no idea what real torque is or I don't understand the concerns about the GT weighing 3600#.

An update. I'm getting the stick. Had the auto ordered but just didn't feel right. I switched it out to the stick
3 days ago and feel at peace. The fun factor won out and that's what it's all about.
Thanks for the input.

Joe, what color body/interior did you choose? Which wheels? Good choice on the transmission, by the way.

The red candy metallic clearcoat with black leather interior. The 'standard' premium interior.
Also the 19" premium luster nickel wheels.
