Here's the price quote for Wifey's 2013

Got the price quote for the Wifey's 2013 GT Vert.
Specs. are:
GT Premium Convertible
Candy Red 400A Interior
Auto
Reverse Sensing
Comfort Group
Rear View Camera

MSRP: 43,415
Quote: 40,707 before any rebates. If there will be any.
Doc. Fees at this dealer are $499.

Appears to be a little wiggle room. Any thoughts?

Also, we haven't decided if we should trade or sell the 2010 GT Premium. It's an auto w/comfort group, and 14,100 on the odo. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated on this also. Taxes in North Carolina are figured on the actual sale price of the new car.

I would sell your 2010. The dealer is going to try to make ~4-5k on your trade in. I sold my F-250 instead of trading it in on my 2013 and saved several thousand dollars, and had it sold within a week of posting it for sale online.

I don't disagree Brother. It a matter of a tax difference of approx. $650 on the final buy. I'm thinking of just getting a trade in quote just for giggles. If they can come in close to blue book, I know they will be able to make approx. $3000 on the old car. Then I may be able to wiggle them on the sale price of the new car. You know how it is, it's the old song and dance routine before the actual kiss. Everybody wants the feel the love.

When selling a car, there's no other way to do it. I get as many quotes as I can within reason.

Consider this when thinking of selling vs trading. In Florida, the tax law allows for the sales tax on a vehicle to be calculated on POST-trade amount. Meaning if your car is 40k, and your trade is 10k, you're only paying tax on 30k. A difference of $600 at 6% in my county. So I would see what the dealer offers you, keep in mind there are legit reconditioning expenses that the dealer will have to spend to make your car sell-able on their lot (usually $500 or so?) and factor in the hassle you will have to go through to sell your car through private party.

Just my opinion, but to me trading the car for $1000 less than private party value is worth it not to have to deal with all the paperwork and hassle. If you are using xplan or a similar discount, then the only difference between all the dealerships is their service quality (pushy or not, respect towards you, etc), and the value they put on your trade in. That gives you the upper hand when negotiating. If they try to low ball you while keeping a straight face and looking you in the eye, take your business somewhere else. And tell that to their face.

edit: another thing to consider is, don't always go by blue book/black book value. Do research when trading and see what cars that are similar to yours are selling for in your area. Dealers rarely use blue/black book, most of the time they claim to have their own pricing formulas based on local rates or some bullhonkey.

Like others have said, if you go to trade in your 2010 get as many quotes as you possibly can before doing so. Even if you're not going to trade it into another dealer, you can always use it as a bargaining chip.

For what it's worth, I got low balled on my 2010 a couple of times before I went to Carmax and they estimated something close to reasonable. After that I could use the Carmax quote to get some reasonable trade values.

The tax law dogiebitt mentioned is the same in Texas as well. It can make a big difference and you can get the same monetary benefit by trading the car in for less than you would sell it for to someone privately. Takes a few minutes of number crunching but if the result is comparable to what you would get selling it, trading it in is a HUGE advantage in convenience.

Went to my local dealer today. It was the old low ball the trade in deal. First offer was $18500, I said that ain't happening. Finally got him up to $20,000, which I think is still low. Our taxing is the same as dogiebitt's in the great state of Florida. I will start getting more quotes on the 2010 tommorrow. I will keep you all in the loop. Thanks for all the good suggestions, and info. Any more will be appreciated.

The song and dance has begun.........

Couldn't agree more. They need to sell you the car..you don't have to buy it. I spent five days dancing around with the dealer, so hang in there
and go for it! By the way, great choice in color

Here's the update as of today. We could feel the like, but not the love. The worst part was when he looked me in the eye, and said I'm selling you the '13 at invoice. Really, $40,707 is not the same invoice I'm seeing. So, I walked. In my book, there's absolutely no reason to lie. It's just not the way I like to deal.

I have another source, gonna talk with him Monday and see if we can feel the love.

The saga continues.........

If you keep looking around, you'll find a dealer willing to make a dealer, without a doubt.

Hey bud, I'll add my help to this since its what I do every day. In regards to your trade, the 1st offer was extremely low!! I'm trading a 2010 GT Coupe with about 18K on it from forum member riceatin2000GT (I sold it to him new in 2010). I told him before the order bank even opened, his car would be worth between $20,000 and $21,000. He's fine with that. So they were way too low for your car. $20,000? I think they could have gone to $20,500 or $21,000 and still be fine on it for a resell aspect.

As for the price of your wife's new 2013. They told you $40,707 is invoice and you didn't believe them? Sorry to tell you, but I priced it out and the invoice price IS $40,707!!! They weren't lying to you!! The rebate would come off after the price, but they were on the up and up in regards to price on the 2013! That is a TOTALLY fair price!!! Where do you think invoice is for the car? Just wondering? There isn't $4,000-$5,000 in markup on new cars anymore. There just isn't!! Let me know if you have any questions. I'm always here to help

That sounds pretty right on for a vert.

isnt Reverse Sensing and Rear View Camera on a vert over kill?

I would have figured the rear view camera would be good enough. No?

Do you mind saying if that's a straight negotiation price or if there's something like X plan or AAA involved? I have X plan pins and AAA purchase program, but with the X plan, I can't use the 1250 in additional private cash and rebates I'm eligible for. If dealers are really willing to sell at invoice minus rebates without X plan, that's great. We might be able to get ours a little sooner.

Gentlemen, in a normal world where I did all the driving the camera would be all needed. But, (and I love her harder than a goat can butt a stump) this will be the Wifey's car. She needs all the help she can get backing, especially with a Vert. and the blindspots that come with them. Honestly, if I could get the car without a reverse gear I would be better off.

Thanks to our friend 05fordgt (Jeff, a good man), the dealer and I got our heads together today. We walked away happy, and the car was ordered. Thanks to Jeff for all the info. It helped me understand the true invoice of the car.
