Help Translating Dealer-Speak

Hi all,

So I asked my dealer if they have heard from Ford regarding confirmation of my order.

The email I got back is:

Per [my salesman], we haven't heard nothing back from Ford. He said that we do have to wait for an allotment to be open for the 2014 Mustang.

If you have any questions, let me know!

[internet manager]

WTF does that mean? I thought the order banks were open and everything should be a go?

Thoughts? Translations? Advice?

If I understand correctly, some small time dealers won't get allotment for a 14' till some time later.

This is a fairly large dealer in the greater Houston area. (prefer not to name them unless its absolutely necessary for one reason or another).

I was kind of surprised, as I thought I wouldn't have this problem from a larger dealer.

Yeah if they move plenty of cars, there shouldn't be a issue ordering your car; the dealer I ordered my 13' from has yet to move any of their mustangs since I ordered 3-4 months ago, still I had no issues "placing" the order.

My understanding is that they have heard something back, due to the double negative.

I went in and signed papers on Friday the 25th, later in the afternoon, if that matters.

[Edit] And I put down a deposit at that time, too [/Edit]

My order went in on 1/7. I have not yet heard from my dealer and have not yet received notice that a VIN has been assigned.

Post in the 2014 Ordered/Built/Delivered Thread and you'll see there is a Ford Customer Service Rep named Deysha. She will ask that you PM her your Dealership Name and your order number and she will keep you posted. She's a gem!

I was wondering if I was the only one thinking that.

Hey CrystalWhiteGT,

PM me with your dealer’s name, the date you placed your order, and the options you selected. I’ll see if it was put in the system.

CrystalWhiteGT,

Just work with Deysha and she wil confirm whether or not the order was placed, and correct to your specifications.

I know when I order a new Mustang, and there have been several, my salesperson will do the following for me.
  1. gives me a copy of the Retail Vehicle Order (a/k/a Buyer's Order), which details the price of the vehicle, trade-in allowance, taxes, fees, etc., completed a much as possible.
  2. gives me a copy of the Vehicle Order Confirmation, which shows the order that was submitted to Ford.
  3. gives me a copy of the DORA (Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement), which is an acknowledgemnet from Ford that the order was received, which also includes the dealer assigned Priority (10-99, 10 being the highest priority) and vehicle pricing. The DORA is usually returned the next business day.
Then it's a waiting game, first waiting for a VIN to be assigned and getting scheduled to be built. This part can take 1 or 2 days, or a month or more, and usually dependant on the dealer having available allocations for Mustangs.

I also request Vehicle Visibility updates from my salesperson as the order progresses. You can always request a status update from Deysha too, just by sending her a PM.

SoFlaBoss - thanks for the info!!

I have PM'd Deysha as the first order of business.

Other things of relevance:
I have a signed buyers order (that's what it looks like anyway) detailing price, and that kind of stuff. Its a bit generic since the vehicle doesn't exist yet. I left a deposit on this as well.

I have the VOC - details of that submitted to Deysha.

No DORA yet, which is what started my concern, and why I made contact with my selling dealer in the 1st place. I am a bit worried if they are telling me they have no allocations.

[Edit] car is a GT Cali Special so I wouldn't think there would be issues around limited production like a GT500 might have [/Edit]

I thought that if a dealer gets say an allotment of 4 per year and someone goes in and puts a order in for a model w/options they want, it's over and above the 4 they would normally get or is that just wishful thinking on the way I would do it.

FYI I am not sure where I saw or read it but since I am a GTCS guy someone reputable sent it to me. The first GTCS just started rolling off the line in the last few days.

Thanks BRADGTCS!

I figured Ford had just started building them, so I figure I have a bit of time to get one. What I worry about is if my dealer is being straight with me about having the ability (allocation) to get me one. If they don't, I should probably see another dealer, but I just don't know enough about the process to make a decent guess at it.

Hey Jordon,

Based on my experience, this means that there hasn't been an opening for your specific order to get into the blending system. My previous orders have taken anywhere from a few days to a few weeks.

Since you said that you signed the papers on the 25th, I would say give them a holler on Friday, the 1st, and see if there's been any activity.

Most likely, due to the dealer orders that have already gone in since the order bank opened, they are just getting caught up with any new orders.

One question I have, though...when you ordered your Mustang, did the dealer enter it as a modification to an existing order or as a new order? That may have an effect as well.

Hang in there!

After reading what seems to be a time game in ordering a Mustang, I'll stick to buying used.

One would think that Ford would be excited with the orders being recieved, and simply build them. I'll guess it has to do with costs of running a factory, paying wages, etc. that has them keeping the build orders down to a minimum.

Like most here, If I were to order one, I'd want to know that it would be built and delivered within a reasonable time frame.

Hi Exrub!

I don't know right now if it was a new order or a modification to an existing order. I would imagine it would be a new order as the VOC sheet they gave me has what seems like a generic order number (1111) and order type (X)

If it a bit of a waiting game, I'm okay with that, as long as I don't miss the model run.
