Help with getting new exhaust for my Stang !!

So I wanna get some exhaust mods and I’ve been doing a lot of research but a lot of it confuses me still. I wanna get Borla S Types. I’m having trouble with weither to get cat back or axle backs. Can I get the axle backs and then change the piping later? What’s the difference from intermediate piping, over the axle piping and down pipes??? And also do x pipes and h pipes have anythig to do with any of those??? And lastly do any of those get rid of stock resonators?
I’m a beginner as you can see so I need a lot help!! Any helpful responses would be really appreciated thanks!!!! (:

Welcome Alex, Borla makes great products. Cat-Back means just that, you get the exhaust pipes behind the cats along with the mufflers when you buy. Axel-Back of course is basically just the mufflers with piping that connects to the over the axle pipes. IMHO unless your pipes are in bad shape all you need is the Axle-Back. The X-Pipes, and H-Pipes give you different tones from the system. The X Pipes will give you a raspy (higher pitch) sound, and the H-Pipe give you more of a old style muscle car deeper tone. These pipes connect into the exhaust system right after the catalytic converters (depending on the model you have), and can be installed separate the mufflers. The resonators can be removed if you wish, and some folks do that to get a bit more sound from the factory exhaust.

Check some of our forum vendors, American Muscle, CJ Pony Parts, etc., and you can get a better idea of what you may want. And, you can see the difference by the pictures on the sites.

Awesome thanks! I do have a quick clarification question, do x & h pipes when you replace them, since you said I can take off the resonators if I want, arent the resonators located after the cats ? How would I keep them if I wanted to add an x pipe ?

For one you are not clarifying whether it is a V6 or GT.
V6 has a Hybrid x/h pipe that I switched to a X pipe on mine, more exotic sounding and yes the V6 resonators are before where the X pipe would be.
I also have Short Tube headers and Borla Touring on my V6.
GT the Resonators are in the Over Axle Pipe just in front of the axle.

Oh alright. Yes I have a v6. I wanted to add borla axle backs but then later on add the x pipe. Is there any Benefit to adding the borla cat back instead ? Cuz if I add an x pipe wouldn’t it replace what the cat back comes with anyway.

Adding the Cat back does nothing but loose some of the Velocity in the exhaust, if you were Super Charging then maybe. Everyone says you get rid of all the unwanted bends, they are there to change resonance between the sides to not cause drone
Here is mine with Borla Touring, FRPP X-Pipe and BBK Short tube headers with stock cats and resonators and stock over the axle pipes.
I added the X-pipe first and then the headers, the Touring mufflers came last

Thanks Siber, I didn't think to ask about the engine. Alex, I'm going to leave you with Siber since he is the more experienced with the V6.

I caught it when he Mentioned the Resonators, but either way way Borla is still the best out there IMO, I have it on my Stang and F150.

I fancy the Borla's myself Siber. I've ran them on my Corvette's. Sound great when you want them, and quiet down when you're cruising.
