Need some help from GT owners in Nevada. Just installed a cold air intake on my 2011 GT. Also just learned that it is not CARB
certified and will not pass California smog test. Question is, will it pass NV smog? Also does NV have a visual check for these
type of units. Hate the thought of having to put stock unit on/off once a year. Dug it out of the trash just in case. Any info
greatly appreciated.

 

Unfortunately, I'm not a GT owner in Nevada, but perhaps you could contact one of your local performance/speed shops in Nevada that should be able to confirm whether Nevada has similar CARB regulations as California... In addition, also consider doing a Google search for Nevada emission/smog check requirements as well... Meanwhile, I hope the info provided might be able to at least lead you in the right direction

 

Or move out of Clark County. Now I know why my friend moved to Beatty.
I would call up a smog station and ask them. I know they cannot have a check engine light and long tube headers even with a catted mid pipe will not pass visual.

Yeah, lot of advantages to leaving clark county (insurance, dmv, smog). Don't think

As mentioned above, either call up a smog station and ask them or locate a performance/speed shop in your local area and ask them... They should provide you with a straightforward answer one way or the other!

 

If I lived somewhere that told me what I can and cannot do with my property, I'd move somewhere else.

I read this morning that UHaul is hiring drivers to bring their trucks back to California because everybody is packing up and leaving and not returning so UHaul locations in CA are not stocked well with rentals anymore. I can understand why.

 

wherever it is you have to go for inspection, ask them ... you could go without the car and say you are considering this kind of modification and ask if it will be a problem ... here in Massachusetts at least, the inspection stations are staffed with live people who will talk to you if you ask them

 

All good replies, I did check with a smog station and was told it would be no problem. We havent gotten to California standards here, at least
not yet. Google says we will be in 2025. Got to save the planet, right? Thanks to all who responded, I hope CA standards are not in your
immediate future.

 

As for saving the planet hype is concerned, it can be accomplished without having to eliminate the internal combustion engine but rather convert them to run on Hydrogen which produces nothing more than H20, or look into converting corn/sugar into alcohol... South America has been converting sugar cane into alcohol for decades with very much success, so why can't the U.S. develop similar/alternative fuel sources which produce nearly zero percent emissions? At any rate, I don't buy into the argument that phasing out the internal combustion engine in favor of all electric-powered vehicles is the solution for saving the environment...For example, what's going to happen when these Lithium batteries finally wind up in landfills, won't they end up having a negative effect on the environment as well when they eventually end up decaying... Anyhow, just something to seriously consider

 

My "saving the planet" post was pure sarcasm. I'm hoping CA standards stay in CA.

I bet people who bought Boss 429s back in the day wish they would have been told that before they threw it all away! Try to restore one now with original stuff, you ain't finding it or it's astronomically expensive.

 

My post response was directed toward all the tree-huggers out there who are brainwashed by all the hype that electric-powered vehicles which use lithium battery technology produce zero emissions, are nothing more than just a myth... The materials used in Lithium batteries also produce some form of emissions, perhaps not quite to the extent when compared to internal combustion engines, but nevertheless, they do...
At any rate, your post-response provided the inspiration I was looking for

Point is, internal combustion engines have come such a long way during the last 25+ years and are far more fuel efficient and produce far fewer emissions than they did prior to 25-30 years ago... So rather than discontinue producing the internal combustion engine altogether, why not just continue evolving the existing technology such as expanding upon E85 ethanol which has been proven to produce zero emissions and has been around for decades...

Other options to consider are converting over to Natural Gas and Hydrogen as alternative fuel sources that can also be developed for producing zero emissions...

Perhaps it's just me, but I just don't understand the reasoning behind the discontinuation of producing the internal combustion engine when there are alternative fuel sources in existence that can be developed for producing practically zero emissions
