It does look decidedly off, it lost too much of the fastback look of a real hardtop. Also it's orange.

Not what I was expecting to see. Cool concept, executed poorly.

Not as good as the original if you ask me

Good idea, poor execution.

I love hardtop verts (the ones that actually fold, etc) but this just looks too added on Too bad, because it's such an awesome idea!

Before clicking on this thread I was

Now I'm

Imagine having a removable hardtop based on the OEM glass roof. That'd be cool.

it would be impossible to do correctly without loosing the trunk completely IMO. nice try, but that's not a good effort.

on the plus side... it kinda looks like a mid-engine Mustang.

Concept is good, if they squared the top off more it might look better. More like an LX notch...

My first thought:

What an odd looking SLK.

My second thought:

Kill it with fire!

I think it'd look OK only if you lopped off the last foot or 2 of trunk. WAY too much booty hanging out there!

i like it but it takes away the short decklid from the car and thats a part of the Mustang design. if those C pillars were a big thicker and longer i think it'd look alot better...

Agreed, my wifes car is an 06 Volvo C70 hard top convertible. It's a great looking car, both top up and top down, but man with that top down, you have exactly 1 suitcase worth of space in the trunk.

Mustang Retractable

I know how hard it is to make the retractable look like a Mustang. Fitting the huge top into the small Mustang trunk is an engineering feat. I converted my 1964 1/2 coupe into a Mustang Hardtop Convertible (or Retractable Mustang) as part of my Shelby contract. We were trying to make Ben Smith's system look less like a Continental and more like a Shelby. We used the rear spoiler of a 67/68 Shelby that allowed us to cheat up two inches in height, without it looking odd from the rear. Ben Smith's design (because he was a Ford designer who probably worked on the Continental) had an overhang on the rear that looked like a Continental kit for a Mustang. We changed our look in hopes that other people would agree that it looked more like a Mustang. It's not an easy task, so kudos to the guy who did this orange retractable. I've learned that any customizing one does will tend to offend someone. If he likes it, then that's all that matters. You can check out some photos of my retractable if you go to my website: www.JonWilhelm.com and follow the retractables link. Jon
