Guitar players; does your amp fit in the trunk?

Hey guys, new to the forum here.

As a prospective owner I was wondering how our musician's gear fits in the trunk. It's a tight opening.

My main gig amp is a 2x12 Mesa Lonestar. The guitars should fit in the back seat fine, but I'm hoping that I won't have to put the amp there and the guitars in the trunk. I've had a 2+2 arrangement before and it's not fun sliding an 85lb amp past the passenger seat without denting the car.

Thanks!

Oh btw, I'm looking at ordering a gt premium, sterling grey, track pack, Recaro car.

why so much amp? Hell my 15w Fender Blues Jr. is more loud than I'll ever need.

Trust me, I'm well aware of how "too much" that amp is. The biggest reason I run it is its versatility, I gig with a semi-hollow body Gibson and a Strat. The 2 channels on that amp can mimic each other so I can set one up for each instrument and change guitars mid set, or even song, seamlessly. It has a master volume that can be completely taken out of the circuit with a switch for old fashioned drive. And 6L6's are the shizzle. I don't use pedals so I ask a lot of my amps hah. Oh and it has selectable wattage, and it spends most its time in 10watt mode lol.

Believe me when I tell you that if I could run with a two **** amp and no pedals I would. I'm a guitar->amp->done kinda guy, but with the variety of my venues that Mesa is hard to beat.

There is plenty of room! You gotta remember that the back seats fold down, allowing better access of storage space. I've had 3 guitars, bass, full Motif XS8 with amp with room to spare. Just gotta learn how to use it.

I hear you on that. My only pedals are a Boss Distortion and a Boss Super Overdrive. But 90% of the time I use amplitube when I'm at home anyway now. Cheap way of having a Marshall :-)

Welcome to TMS!

Yep - 2 guitars in back seat, amp (laid flat) and gig bag in trunk. Put 3M Clear Mask on the bumper so I wouldn't scuff it getting the amp in and out of the trunk.

OP, no way you will get that 2 12 cab in the back. I'm running a Mesa Tremoverb head with the rectifier 2 12 extension cab and it wont fit. I tried my fender Vibroverb once and almost tore the tolex. The biggest I've shoved in there was my deluxe reverb.

Yeah, the trunk would be big enough but I'm not sure the opening would in order to angle it in. I can get my Peavey Classic 30 in there along with a couple guitars but that's only a 1x12 combo so no real problem.

I couldn't get a 2x12 cab in there because of the angle. Maybe if the trunk didn't slope you may would have enough room to tilt it in.

Guitars, head, pedal board and cord bag fit fine in the trunk. I keep my cabs in our trailer, but all the stuff that I bring home fit great in the trunk.

That's what I was figuring, oh well. I have other amps and the wife's volvo V50 is my normal chariot for gigs, but this may be enough to get me to finally convert that beast to a head/cab setup, I was thinking 2x10 webbers to dig some of the mud out of it. ...but that's a discussion for another place.

Next question; anybody that have the 1200 shaker system? How much trunk space do you loose to the sub in regards to fitting music gear in there?

I originally had my heart set on a loaded car (track, recaros, glass roof, 1200 shaker), but then I realized how much better I would do price wise if I left the roof and upgraded speakers out -like $3500. That gets me under $40k msrp, easier pill to swallow.

Mustangs are a rare breed at my dealerships so I have nothing to compare. The only one I've driven is a gt/cs with the 500 shaker, I found it to be quite nice. Many of the YouTube reviews sing high praise for the 1200watt system.

I'm a little weary because when I was buying an f150 a few years ago, the upgraded "Sony" system was barely better than stock and not worth the money imo.

Thanks for the warm welcome folks!

I hear you, its like what most said. Its the angle and size of the opening. Mesa are built like tanks and weigh as much. The last thing I would wanna do is hunker over a trunk slowly with $2000+ amp that weighs 90lbs LOL. My vibroverb just slides in there but don't like the idea of laying it in on the back. Any thing wider than 25" or so the opening squeezes down to 10" for the trunk opening fyi.. you might have a good chance if you went in length wise layed flat. Id like to see a pic of you lugging your amp to the dealer though LOL. Salesman-- "what's the amp for?!?" its the dealbreaker bisches.. Welcome to the forums

I put my 3x10 tweed bandmaster, a les paul, a tele, pedalboard, and a couple guitar stands in my trunk, no problem.

Have you considered just taking the amp to the dealer and seeing if it will fit in the trunk of one of their Mustangs?

I have, but like was mentioned above she's a heavy one so it typically only moves when making money.

I have a little single 10" deluxe clone that will go in and out right slick (at least I think it's a deluxe, could be a champ. Believe it or not I really don't know gear tech all that well, I just know what sounds good)

I originally intended to switch to a head/cab setup, and getting a mustang may just be the push I needed lol.

"So you see honey, I had to buy the car so that I could buy this stuff for my amp..."

Yeah, I can man handle the amp ok, but for some reason I don't see myself picking it up, turning it flat and sliding it into the trunk like a 90lb pizza. Haha.

Just gonna have to get another amp... Schucks.
