GT500 Mufflers and Redline Struts...

They both arrived today. Will try and put the struts on this weekend. Once this snow melts will have the local guy throw the mufflers on. Another 3 inches of snow today...we are up to around 75 inches for the year...normal is only around 30 to 35 inches...we better have a real good summer to make up for this!!!!!

If you can get the hood open and have 15 minutes - the hood struts are a done deal.

One of the easiest mods ever and a FANTASTIC upgrade!

Guess it depends on what you consider a "real good" summer, if excessive heat and rain are that then you'll be good.

Mufflers are a DIY project as well as the struts.

I'd rather pay $60 - $80 bucks and have it done right and in an hour...I don't have any ramps or anything to raise it up so cheaper just to pay him to do it...

Agreed. There's nothing wrong with paying a few bucks to someone with the right tools that knows what they are doing. The hood struts are easy, but the mufflers can be a PITA.

Good luck with the Redline struts go, I will be looking for an update. Mine just came in today but I won't have time to put them on until Saturday when I clean and detail the rest of the car and do the sound tube delete.

Hope the install goes as easy for you as everyone says it will!

Guys, a woman with absolutely no mechanical experience whatsoever could install the redlines in half an hour and do it correctly. It's trivial.

FYI I wouldn't even consider installing hood struts without help and plenty of protection at the base of the hood and the windshield. One little slip and there goes the windshield or the fender / hood paint.

I read here how easily GT500 (and other) axle-backs are soooo easily installed, even with no ramps or jack stands. BULL CRXX!!! I am a mechanical guy with all the proper tools and ramps...there was no easy method, even to get the stock mufflers off. I finally paid the Ford dealer $50.00 to do it..a wise investment if you ask me. Just my 2 cents.

Exhaust can be a PITA, but the hood struts are simple. If you need help with that, you need help. lol

I understand what you are saying and I agree it is simple but I have had one hood slip down when the hinge bolt was removed..scared the heck out of me. I'm just saying rather be safe than sorry. Shxx happens for no reason...lol

Why are you removing hinges to put hood struts on? I just kept the prop rod in until done.

I really wasn't an expert at all things automotive... but working on my car and installing mods on her was one of the best and most fun things I've ever done. It's a way to connect with your car. From exhaust to struts to even an SC, I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. Suspension mods are the only things I had a shop do.

Like Wheelman says, there's no need to remove hood bolts when installing Redlines. It's super easy.

Which redline struts should one get? The quick lift, plus, or elite?

I plan on doing the struts, but more than willing to pay the local shop to do the mufflers...he did them on the 12 and had it done in under an hour....

I have the plus and love them. Very easy install. I'd recommend them.

No doubt the install looks trivial and beyond simple, I just tend to be pessimistic with installs and always expect them to take longer than they should.

I felt the same before this one (my redlines) and I do as well with everything else, but these literally took me 10 minutes from opening the box to shutting the hood.

I guess I am slow took me about 1/2 hour...but I do have a habit of f'ing things up so I went nice and slow......I did wax under the areas where the hardware went and it took a little longer plus a gash on my finger getting that dang hood prop out...but it's done.

Just wondering...does it hurt the struts to leave the hood open for an extended period of time??
