Gt or shelby gt500
Recently got a lot of disposable income and know I want a 2012 mustang. Either way I want to do some serious aftermarket and make it my own creation that's why I was gunna get the gt. But that 5.4L in the Shelby would be amazing. Help me start my dream machine pls!!!!

FWIW, the 5.0 responds very well to supercharging, apparently...it will be a bit lighter as well as cheaper which will leave room in your budget for more mods.

A Man Just Needs Some....
Man that's a tough decision. Just depends what you prefer. Although I am a huge fan of SVT and that 5.4, the GT is a great car. What are you hp goals? What do you plan on doing with it? Do you prefer the interior and exterior in either one?

For me, if money was no option I would have the Shelby. In my situation it was prudent for me to have the gt. Awesome car, love Love LOVE it, but the shelby would be preferable to me. As the others are saying, I would really wait 6 months or so and see what the new shelby will be running. I suspect it will be amazing!

I know this has been stated before but u can get a gt n make it handle, accelerate, etc for less that a gt500 would cost. If u want a prestigious type car, get the gt500, but if u want something u can create and call ur own get the gt.

Does the IRS know about this sudden disposable income?
It really depends on what you want as the end result. If you want to save weight, then I'd start with the GT and boost it. As far as customizing the exterior, the GT has more options. But as long as the money isn't burning a hole in your pocket, I'd wait and see what the 2013 has to offer.

Have had both. 2011 GT and now have a 2012 Shelby GT500. My recommendation would be the Shelby if you can afford it. Very sweet and extremely fast!
Either one is a great car, buy what makes you happy

Now that the GT500 is eligible for X-Plan purchase, and thus can be bought for somewhere in the $44's, I'd have to heartily recommend the GT500, unless one or more of the below is applicable to you:
- Cannot drive the stick & need an automatic (my issue for health reasons, otherwise you should LEARN how to operate a clutch if you don't already know).
- Gas mileage is a huge concern. MPG is not a GT500 strong suit. But with all that disposable income you should be OK.
- Your car insurance premiums push you away from the GT500 (relative to the 5.0 GT)
I never could afford the GT500, but after my recent Benjamin Dover experience (trade-in of my '11 vert and purchase of another new Mustang in 13 months - my '12 coupe), in hindsight for another $3K to $4K I could have just bought a GT500 coupe the 1st time if I'd only known.... Oh that's right - I need an automatic now. Yeah in some ways it REALLY sucks getting old!

I had the same problem that you have now. GT or GT500 but I went with GT500. Beside if you get GT500 2011,2012 you can find a 2012 for almost 53-55k with all options.

It all depends what you want to do if you are modding the car then I would just buy used. If you want a drag car go with the gt500 throw on a 3.4 whipple or I went with the 3.6lc kenne bell and @ 93 octane I'm putting down 726rwhp on the stock engine and stock tranny. If your thinking more track then go 5.0 and focus on suspention upgrades.

If it's gonna be a daily driver get the GT... You can drive the Shelby daily, and you'll enjoy it everyday.. If you're looking for the potential return on Investment.. A Shelby w/ a lot of miles will be overlooked everyday.. I was looking at used Shelby GT or Shelby GT500.. I saw a 2007 Shelby GT500 it had 40,xxx miles on it.. they wanted $30,000 I never even bothered to look into it.. I figured a GT500 with that many miles has been abused... Good luck..
