GT Interior Option - Standard vs Premium Trim

As you know, a "std" GT has perferated leather seats and bright Aluminum dash panels. A "premium trim" option gets you solid leather seating surfaces and a darker, more textured Aluminum dash panels. Any significant negatives to either selection?

I like the solid door panels of the 401A. I would have liked the darker dash panels too, but then they don't match the silver accents on the steering wheel. Never understood why Ford does that, especially on the GT/CS. But, I like the seats better on the 400A - don't like the solid surfaces or that stripe thingie. So overall, I liked the 400A better for my needs.

The only actual "drawback" that I see is the chintzy shift **** that comes with the 400A. It's the same plastic crapper that's come with the Mustang since 2005. If you like the metal round ****, you can just buy it and the boot for ~$200 or less through Ford.

The only negative I can think of with the Premiere Trim is that the metal shifter **** will either get really hot or cold depending on the temperature outside. It seems like the difference between trims is mostly an aesthetic thing. I dig the old school look of the 400A trim, but it's so close to how the interior looked in the 05-09 Mustang that I went with the 401A package to have a slightly different look.

The 401A package is well worth the $395 over the 400A. The seats may not be what you want, but the shifter and door panels make the car look much more upscale.

I sat in both kinds of seats and they seemed to be equally as comfortable and supportive...but I liked the feel of the solid leather a little bit better. I picked the 401a mostly because I thought it looked sharp. I got the charcoal black w/chashmere stripe on the seat because it was a little less bold than colors. I guess that, just as a lot of things with these cars, it's whatever you like. If you're writing the check, you get to pick whatever you like best. Good luck!

The difference between 401A and 400A is merely personal styling preference IMO. Only thing I liked better from the 401A is the shifter, so it wasn't worth the extra $400 to me

personally i didnt like the "upgrade" shift **** in the 401A i thought it looked too old fashion. i like the simple design of the 400A ****. plus i didnt like any of the stripe colors contrasting with the kona blue. liked the feel of the perforated seats. but wish i could have the darker dash panel from the 401A. just my opinion

Well, all those responses were great, and mirror my thoughts. I personally think the upscale door panel (401), Que-Ball Shift **** (Roush, etc.) and the all-too-bright dash panels (400) & solid surface seats without butt-stripe (unavailable) would be my personal preference. Probably with the ~$350 I'll "save" buying the 400 package, I can buy the doorpanels if they really bug me over time... Thanks to all!

Are you in Canada?

Because in the U.S. a "standard" GT has cloth interior and "premium" has leather.

That's my approach too, Ranger. Going to buy a set of door panels when they start popping up used. I actually like the pattern on the door panel of the 400A, but I like the little silver pony! If I thought I could make one work on the 400A panel, then I would be perfectly happy.

I could buy them new, but I don't think it's worth THAT much to me

Man, that's just the opposite of how I feel about it. I love the 401A shift **** because it's sexy, retro, sleek, and metal, I really don't like the 400A **** and pretty much all modern style shift *****. The style just doesn't appeal to me, too subdued and it seems like the gear shift pattern is always just a plastic or very thin metal sheet with the numbers painted on. The 401A **** though is solid and engraved, thus why I love it so.

Seats I don't know, I couldn't find a 2010 401A and 400A Mustang on the same lot to sit in and compare the seats. I decided there probably wasn't going to be a significant difference, at least not enough to go to huge trouble with.

Aside from that it's just preference. The cashmere stripe I thought was a nice accent for Candy Red, and I do like the darker dash and especially the little chrome ponies in the doors.

beware the "flat" leather in the 401A package looks loose and wrinkly after a while, the pleated leather on the basic premium seats already has creases in it so it doesn't get that saggy look

I preferred everything on 400A except the shifter, so I swapped only that out.

I think what the OP is talking about is the difference between the standard Premium GT (400A) and the premier trim option (401A).

Just so you know... the "leather" is going to suck either way. Whomever they sourced from... well, it's embarrasing.

^^ The only part that's leather is the part you sit on and the lower back section, the rest is vinyl.

I'd go a step futher and say that it is ALL vinyl... totally unacceptable... goes along with the "cheap" mustang feel though. I shouldn't be surprised. thank god it is fast at least.

^^^ that. I really really really liked the shifter on the 401A, so I ordered the **** and boot from partscheap.com. Just picked it up from my mailbox in Blaine the other day, looking forward to install it later. (Might get a short shifter too and then do both at once).

C'mon now. It's a treated synthetic leather.

Does the std shift **** just unscrew? I wanted to add the upgraded one, but wasn't sure if it just would be a simple add on
