yes, more than likely too quiet with the GT500 mufflers but probably a nice, smooth upper rpm sound under load.

i was thinking that an O/R x-pipe plus the GT500 mufflers would add the bass down in the lower rpms while the mufflers would keep it from sounding trashy or raspy.

so many variations to consider, i'm now thinking a loud muffler-based axle-back (roush, flowmaster, etc. - not muffler deletes) plus a regular x-pipe like the Corsa or Magnaflow to smooth the pulses out would make nice noise.

100% agree. Otherwise you need a VERY good camera. I've tried videoing mine and it sounds nothing like in person. On video it's blah, in person it's

What people need to understand too is that just because someone says "I don't like them" does not mean YOU are not going to like them. Everyone has a different sound that they want in terms of volume and tone. It's all subjective to the individual so don't choose exhaust because of what someone thinks about them, you have to hear it yourself and get what you like.

The GT500 mufflers are OEM as Overboost says. They'll increase volume and modify the tone but it's not going to make you crap your pants since it's OEM. If you want something that gives off volume to that pants crapping level of course you are going to need something else (Borla, Corsa, etc.). Video's will give you an idea of whether exhaust is raspy or deep, but the average video camera won't do justice.

Buy what you like, not what others like. Heck, I've never heard of anyone running the same setup that I have. It was a risk I was willing to take and it sounds badass. Of course, don't take my word for it...

Also, the 2011 RTR uses these mufflers on a basically stock 5.0, so if you check out the car in these vids, you might get an idea.

The increase in sound is very noticable and the song at full throttle is awesome. and unlike many of the other systems I have tried it doesnt sounds like a harley davidson when under load.

Here is the problem guys, you cant tell ANYTHING about an exhaust systems sounds form a video, you have to hear it in person. Second exhaust is such a subjective thing personal prefernces play a huge part in why some people like one and not another.

Sometyhings that are not subjective are build quality, lack of drone and quality of materials used.
All good points, and thank you once again Shaun for that lightning fast shipping! I was thinking about this today and am wondering whether my lack of any other mods has something to do with the quietness at idle/no-load (compared to your car)? Others on here have noted how the FRPP power pack "woke up" their stock exhaust. But my wife today sardonically said she could hear no difference in the parking lot (idle/no load) with my stock intake/SVT muffler combo.

Under acceleration and load (which I got a chance to run the car through today), the sound is much more pronounced; it's definitely louder but not to an extreme (at least with the stock airbox). And I absolutely LOVE the look of the 4" tips.

Some of this may be my wishful wishing for an exhaust sound like I had on my old pushrod Chevy 350, and this variably-valved engine simply isn't going to deliver that kind of rumble, at least through the stock short headers/H-pipe/cats.

I re-listened to a bunch of exhaust videos, and I must say that upon a checking it out again, these SVTs sound as good as the Borla Tourings and better than some of the others, at least going by the video.

I never found out what the duct-taped washers were that were attached by thin cable to the mufflers, but I clipped the lanyards and tossed 'em. Also, the mufflers are definitely burning off something; a quick visual indicated the little "SVT" stickers wrapped around the inlet pipes are probably the culprit.

They're GTA mufflers. I can't seem to find a link to them for 2011. But here's what they look like for the 2010.

I know the GT500 mufflers sound different on the 5.0, but here's a great video showing them off on the 2011 GT500.

Question

Does anyone know what the little duct-taped washers are that come attached to the GT500 mufflers on tiny cable lanyards? Some kind of fixture to hold the muffler while being manufactured or inspected?

I am picking up a set of the 11'gt500's wednesday for $150. They are take offs with 1k miles on them. I will update on the sound! I had corsa's on my 08gt and like the sound. quiet inside, no drone, and nice sound at wide open! But $700 is a little steep for them again for the lack of power they add. For a car that you drive daily quieter isnt so bad.

I was honestly bummed when you posted your initial impressions, but the above is exactly what I was hoping for and was expecting. My 5.0 is my daily, and I wanted something louder than stock but not blatantly aftermarket loud. Not to mention the sweet deal from Shaun!

I am very anxious to read the thoughts/impressions of those with stock tune/airbox (as I have). Am also interested in Shotzy's take on them (he very recently got the FRPP power pack installed). Our theory is that those with Steeda/FRPP/aftermarket intakes may be getting more sound/bass out of the GT500/SVO mufflers than us stock people. If he comes out rumblin' then it will accelerate my plans to get an intake/tune.

As I told Shotzy, these GT500 mufflers offer pretty much the sound I wanted under acceleration, and they were inexpensive enough that they'll serve me well until next summer when I hopefully will hear a few modified '11 exhausts in person!
