Hehe... yep, AWD will take it in the rain!
Here's my own personal example of this. Me in my Charger SXT/AWD (2-ton car, V6/250 hp, AWD on Sumi. HTR ZIII street tires) at a track day at NJMP in moderate to heavy RAIN all day! We were really bummed about the weather, but decided to make a "learning experience" out of it. To be honest, it was one of the best dang track days I've ever had! In this video (from my car), the two black cars I'm passing both have at least double the HP I have! Enjoy! (I sure did!)

Dont feel too bad getting beat by wrx. I had a bone stock 09 wrx and managed to get a best of 12.904 with it before getting back to the blue oval. Yea I realize it was raining on you just saying wrxs arent that slow since the 09 model.

I live waaaaay up by the Mass border but I work in Middletown (yep, I drive 100 miles round trip every day which is why I have a "beater" to absorb some of the mileage).
Middletown is still almost an hour away from Bridgeport though!

I couldn't care less about any of those cars. They all sound like a pissed off tin can to me. I'd race a Camaro, Challenger, Corvette or another Mustang but those other things are just stupid to me.....

Yeaaah, cold rain it's just a bad idea to put the hammer down. In my experience traction breaks way too easy in those conditions. I've even had traction control kick on in 4th on a straightaway and it wasn't even raining, just cold (tires weren't really warmed up either).

yeah as everyone else has said, if grip is a big issue then you're SOL against an awd.
as it should be... I think you may have mixed up the boxster pecking order. There is no way an Evo or a 5.0 can match a boxster spyder on any dry road course. An elise might have a chance on a very slow and twisty course, but if its fast the boxster would blow it away too.

WHAAAAT? (i only read the OP so forgive me if I am a lil late)
I own a 2011 Mustang GT Cali Special and a 2004 Impreza WRX coupe(the wifes car) and I really don't understand how ya lost!!!
Yeah, the AWD has an advantage on the launch (especially in the wet) but I can kill one 100% of the time in the 5.0.
An STI with great tires may be a different story, but a WRX wagon? Never. lol
