Glass roof durability
Hi, I'm interested in the glass roof option on the 2011 but I have some questions about it. My car is going to live outdoors year round in New England so I'm wondering how it's going to hold up. Am I going to have to worry about scratching, pockmarks, or spidering from tree debris? What happens if it does manage to get damaged from something like a fallen tree branch from a freak noreaster? How much is it going to cost me to replace?
Really I'm just curious if I'm going to spend this much money and a few years from now not be able to enjoy it because when I look up all I see is scratches and other marks. Thanks.

As for durability I don't see it being much different from your average sun roof or moon roof. As for replacement, glass is always expensive to replace. But then that's why we pay for insurance right?
I wonder if you could apply that 3M clear bra stuff on the roof? They make big pieces for front bumper and clear pieces for headlights. Why not a big rectangle for the roof?

If it's glass, then you shouldn't get scratching, pockmarks, or spidering. Does your current windows do this ??? Mine doesn't unless there is damage to the glass. I wonder more of what about a rock chip? Does it spread like your wind shield? T^hat would totally suck

3M Clear protectant

If you can put that on the glass roof it will definitely protect it well from stuff falling on it. It's tough stuff.

Only time I've ever had to deal with my insurance company was when a rock struck my windshield on the highway and cracked it. I am now curious if being part of the roof will change how they cover it.

When I travel to visit family I usually drive at night. Can't wait to be driving and look up at the stars.

I had one apartment I lived at where my parking was under trees and a couple of time over the years I come out to find some sizable debris on it after a storm. My current car has taken more than enough abuse from salt trucks and my windows are just fine so probably no worries. As Coupe66US points out I should probably check what it's covered under by my policy.

I wouldn't think it would be much different that the rear window. In fact it's probably more durable because it doesn't dent like a steel roof would.
Damaged by a no-easta? Call your insurance company just like you would if you had a steel roof.

So the glass roof won't shield you from the engine jumping into the cabin? Man, what a waste of money.
Wow, hope nobody was in that when it got hit....

It looks like someone was, since the airbag deployed. From the look of the photos, the driver lost his or her legs.

The glass roof in that picture definitely isn't the factory piece as it doesn't have the small panels between the glassroof and the windshield/backglass.
Pretty bad accident!!

As a VP in an auto insurance company in MA and the happy owner of a 2010 glass roof Mustang I can tell you that the glass roof is covered with NO DEDUCTIBLE under your auto insurance. If if cracks or breaks it is a freebie under the same policy that replaces your windshield.
