gauge cluster differences
hello, 1st post but been lurking awhile.
a 2011 gt is in my plans.
a simple question i have is about the gauge cluster.
in a standard gt it is a 4-gauge and a premium gt it is a 6-gauge.
what is the difference/appearance or what 2 gauges are added and where?
i have a 2003 gt premium and have never sat in a 2005-up.
as simple as this difference may be it could be the deciding factor on which model i buy.
thx for any responses.

the 2011 6 gage cluster is below, the 4 gage is the exact same look minus the bottom 2. There's and 05-9 an example (cuz i gave up google-ing for a 2010+ after 5 min....) but you get the idea.
If you notice as well, if gives you mph readings every 5mph notch, as opposed to the 2010 which is every 2 notches. Which i'm glad they fixed in the 2011, cuz currently going 35 or 55mph (any example with a #5...) is anyone's guess!
But not a big deal...

wow, i thought the pic of the 6 gauge was actually the 4 gauge.
i didn't think the tach and speedo were counted as gauges even though they are "gauges".
i was scratching my head thinking "what extra 2 gauges come with a premium and where are they located?"
my 87 5.0 LX, which was an LX 6 cyl. optioned with the 5.0 package and not a stand alone car had 6 gauges.
i think Mustangs are the cat's meow and applaud Ford for what they've done with the car but
i think it's pretty chintzy and cheap to not give oil temp. and voltage gauges as standard.
idiot lights only come on when it's too late.

FYI ... Oil PSI gauges on '94-04 Mustangs were basically idiot "gauges".
On my '98 I added a mechanical gauge and it would show the real pressure adjusting up & down with RPM as well as drop while the engine warmed up (like an oil pressure gauge should). All that movement and the factory gauge needle stayed in it's "normal" place. Found out later that the factory gauge works just like a light ... when the "low oil pressure" switch on engine is satisfied (like 5 or 10 PSI), it swings to it's normal position.
I'm pretty sure the '05-11 oil psi gauge works the same, correct me if I'm wrong.

Coincidence? maybe... But it's cheaper to make it universal in the v6/gt lineup. Not a big deal to me, but i hear what you're sayin...

is the the gauge for oil pressure or oil temp.?
there is an idiot light that should alert you once the motor is low by 1 quart.
i also drive a vehicle with an oil pressure gauge and it does move with rpm or load.
that being said, the voltage gauge can give forewarning to a faulty charging system.

Greetings, new member-1st post..own a 05 GT(24500 miles) having problems with the fuel gauge..(not the sending unit) the needle will stick from time to time. Where can I get a new Inst.cluster and can I upgrade to a 6 gauge from my 4 gauge, also dont have a Info Center/trip computer..how hard would it be to add these?

I swear I saw pics of the V6 interior with a 160 MPH Speedo a few weeks back; however the cluster on the 2011 V6 MCA Edition has a 140 MPH Speedo ...

Personally, I'd prefer a 140 MPH Cluster and see nothing wrong with 120 MPH either. Especially on a gauge with only 180Deg of "sweep" there is a little more spacing between numbers.

On my '04 Mustang I installed a 42% underdrive pulley. With this much underdrive, you WILL see voltage fluxuations especially at idle with headlights, fogs, & rear defost on. However with this load, the factory "gauge" needle will move only slightly as RPM's increase off idle and if you let the clutch out to drag just enough to bring RPM's down a little further you can see it move the oposite direction but not as drastic as I feel the voltage is actually fluxuating.
Ford has purposly dampened the gauges so you don't see constant changes. I read some time ago that Ford did this because when many non-gear head people see fluxuations in gauges, they think something might be wrong.
Basically, Idiots need idiot lights and if you give them gauges, they better be idiot gauges too !!

Weird on that MCA V6. I think that is an old cluster, not the other way around. The RPM is set at 6500. I thought maybe the interior shots were from a 2010 GT because the hood is red, but you can clearly see the blind spot mirror...so hmmm.

I suspect you're right, that the early prototype probably just had the GT gauges.
