Gated shifter for manual Mustangs?
Does anyone out there makes a gated shifter, or just the gated bezel for the Mustangs?
A few years ago I was fortunate enough to drive a Gallardo Superlagera in Germany (similar to the author of the article below, ironically) And till this day I still have sweet, sweet dreams about the way you could pull off gear shifts in that car. Short, crisp, rifle-bolt like, no guessing. Just the other days I thought it would be awesome if we could get that for our cars. But I don't see anyone making them. I wonder why that is...
Something like this, but for the MT-82

Guess you could, just get some aluminum plate and cut out the shift pattern in it and put it over the stock stick.
Reason nobody makes one is that almost nobody wants one.

I've always wanted this as well. I just love the look and sound it makes. It's on my "to-do list" of things I'll have to custom source. I have a friend that is good at machining aluminum but he relocated back to Mexico. Funny, he's actually in town this week but I don't have my car yet!

I want one for sure. I'm not sure, but I think you'd need a new shifter as well. The thick part of the stock shifter would sit a little too high for metal gate. Just my guess.
I'm surprised no one makes these. I definitely think there would be a market for it. If it shifts better than stock, looks and sounds sharp (brushed metal gate), and costs about what other shifters do, I think quite a few people would opt for it.

To make it work the way you want...where it guides your shifts rather than getting in the way of shifting would take quite a bit of R&D. I think the gate and shifter would have to be designed together as a unit.
If you just want a plate that looks like a gated shifter, but doesn't actually function like one sure that's easy...but ricer-ish in my opinion.

The point isn't just the looks, it's mainly function. That's what I was thinking as well, the shifter and gate have to be designed as a 2-part system. I know companies like MGW put a lot of design effort into their shifter. I hope someone does the same with a gated version.
I'm hoping that someone can educate me on advantages with a gated shifter over the traditional shifter in our cars today...
to me, purely on looks, it doesn't look like it could be used as aggressively as a type supplied in our mustangs today.

Care to elaborate?
The advantages aren't performance ones - they're purely a style and sound thing, as the noise they make when shifting is pretty cool. Unless I'm missing another benefit?

I can see it being functional too, as in the gates guide the shifter handle into the actual position, but I personally just love the looks and "snick" sound.

Correct. Proper metal gated shifter will actually guide you in, thus allowing you to "point and shoot" it into gear. And they look and sound cool, which is why they are widely used on cars like Lambo and Ferrari. I drove a Gallardo with a gated shifter, and after a few hours I was confidently changing gears with my index finger.
