Future owner of a 2013 mustang :D

For Christmas and my 17th birthday, I was given order guide for a new 2013 mustang v6! I am going to be going to medical school after college and will be driving this car for a long time! I am new to the mustang community and have some questions on some of the options given in the guide. I know I am going to buy the performance package for the v6, but am unsure whether to get a manual or ford's select shift option with it. I have driven other cars with select shift (mazda 3, ford edge) and have not really liked how the car has a delay when you shift. Also, I am hoping to get the Recaro seats and was wondering if anyone has any experience with them, and would like to know your opinion on cloth vs leather recaro seats. Thanks!

welcome! and manual all the way. especially if you are getting the PP (I didnt think the offered the PP w/ auto) As for the seats its your call, but the cloth has more grip, but leather looks and feels nicer. I still haven't seen pictures of the recaro's they are offering in '13

Yep PP package is available on man or auto now (coupe only) and you definitely have to get it since the 3.31 isn't a stand alone option anymore.

as for the transmission, it's up to you weather you want a man or auto,
but the "select shift" feature is just a stupid gimmick, even though i just ordered one but almost rather it didn't have it

I'm 40 years older than you and still rockin a manual. Much more fun to drive than any type of auto.

Thanks guys! I've decided to go with a black or sterling grey v6 mustang with the performance package and manual transmission. I am still waiting to see if the recaro option will have cloth seats with the suede inserts like the boss 302 or leather seats like the shelby. I'm thinking that the recaros will be like the seats in these two cars, but with a mustang logo instead.

Well, to put in my 2 cents, I say manual - PP - leather - grey. Looks better, longer and stands out more.

Hey bud, congrats and welcome. I'm the resident sales guy here. If you have any pricing questions, let me know. While the 2013 prices are not yet available, I'll be happy to price out a 2012 to give you an idea where the 2013s may be around. Let me know if you have any questions.

I've probably gotten more compliments on the Saddle upholstery than any other feature of my car.

Thanks again for the feedback guys. I've decided to get a sterling grey v6 with the performance package because black will be too much of a PITA for me to take care of. And thanks for the pricing offer! I already have a pretty good idea of what the cost of the car will be, I'm just waiting on the pricing for the boss seats and the other new options that have been added for 2013 that I may consider getting.

Congrats! That's a hell of a 17 year bday present, xmas or not lol. Just drive careful and be responsible. Don't fall into the stereotype of the reckless youngster

Haha, this brings back memories. I remember getting into med school about 20 or so ago, and getting my 89 gt conv. Life can be so beautiful. Thanks Ford. Thanks mom and dad. I kept it until about 5 years ago.

Yeah, go with the manual and heel toe that puppy.

Yeah, I was almost crying man tears when I was told that I was getting a mustang. A mustang is my dream car and I am so grateful that my family decided to make my dreams come true. I may not be used to driving a manual, but it is something that I want to learn and eventually master before manuals are killed all together, which would be a shame. :'(

Same here. I regret not getting my Eclipse in manual, and it's only my second car. So my 2013 GT will be manual. Can't wait to drive it!
