Forward Tilt

My biggest problem with the 2010 is the appearance of a "forward tilt". This may be a hit with guys who liked the rear ends jacked up in the 60s and 70s, but it does not look good to me. Not to mention it adds to the huge rear deck height. I know it is relatively unchanged from the 05-09, but the addition of the black plastic molding just accentuates(sp) it. I adjusted the slope in iPhoto so that the mustang is parallel with the line of site and you can see how far the rear wheel sits lower. If ford could have adjusted this, I think the mustang looks much more sleek, but that would mean completely revising the whole suspension geometry as well as wheel wells, etc. I plan on trying to chop this photo to get the wheel in where it needs to be and adjust the wheel arch. Does anyone have a Hi res. version of this? This is probably more personal preference then anything as there are probably plenty of enthusiasts out there that like the "tilt", personally i prefer sleek.

The attached pic has been adjusted.

here's the overlap. Gives you some idea of what it could look like and by how much it appears to tilt.

There is an easy fix for this, push hard on the pedal on the right.

That "Wedge Shape" is what makes Modern Cars Look so Modern, Unlike Older Cars. That's One of the Reasons the Last 2 Seat T-Birds Look So Out of Place. The Wedge Shape is an Aerodynamic Principle that gives the Car Better Handling and Stability as the Higher Rear Deck creates More Downforce, creating Less Aerodynamic Drag .

Was called "the California rake" back in the '50s. Became the "Wedge" in the mid '70s,. (Triumph TR7, e.g.)

Guess much depends on one's definitions of "Modern" and "Older Cars"...

Isn't downforce by definition Aerodynamic Drag? The most Areodynamic shape is a water drop, which completely tapers in the back, which is where the fastback design originated. I agree the higher deck creates Down force, but it also reduces visibility and makes the car look huge. Downforce can be applied by any number of ways, the easiest being a functional spoiler or wing.
The wedge shape is not particularly Aerodynamic. Solar powered cars, who need the least resistance possible are not wedge shaped, but are water drop shaped or wing shaped. Of course that does not make for an attractive vehicle at all.

This "modern" look is making cars way to big in the rear, much like modern food is making me way to big in the rear.

Sorry, steve-o! Here I finished the chop, hopefully it won't hurt as bad.

I'm not saying I like the way the rear wheel and arch turned out. I need to figure out how adjust the size of the wheel well.

I did absolutely nothing to the size of the car. It is the exact same dimensions. I just sunk the wheel well up into the rear quarter (again, i am not happy with the appearance yet).

But see how much smaller the rear of the car looks once this is adjusted. I also think it made the fastback look faster.

That looks terrible.

Not the chop itself, just the way it makes the car look.

The whole car needs lowering to lose the 4x4 look. That'll help, IMHO

The 05-09 had the same problem. I think it looks better than the stock 95-04 look with the front end jacked up too high
