Does anyone here have or had a forward facing car seat in the back of their 05 or newer stang. My little one is 17 months and is going to be in a seat for a few years. Before I go and test fit one at the dealer, it would be nice to know if it is going to be a waist of time or not. I am trying to decide on a new car and being a 5.0 guy, I would love to pick up a new one.

Many people on these forums have reported they have been able to get them to fit no problem. If you do a search you may find some recommendations for brands/models that worked good for them.

When I got my mustang, I bought a booster seat with a back for my daughter since she was big enough. I did have a front facing seat behind the passenger for about a week and it was a tight fit.

The forward facing seats fit fine on both sides, but starts to get tight once their legs hang over the edge, especially if you are tall (talking leg room for them). I am 6' 0", and have to put my littlest one behind my seat. I have an '11. If you have two kids, road trips longer than an hour or so are pretty painful for them, if they are older than 3. If you have also have someone riding on the passenger side that is tall, I would recommend anyone reconsider a mustang if you want to take the kids along on a regular basis.

 

I have the recaro prosport in my '12 GT. it fits great and takes up way less space than the rear facing graco we use to have. Plus it looks great in the car. Can't recommend it enough.

 

I got both a rear and forward facing seats in my car. Only a 15 minute ride to daycare. The forward seat goes behind me and I have to sit a bit closer than normal just to give my daughter some legroom

 

That's the main reason I traded up from my z to my 5.0. I have a forward facing seat for my 3 yr old. Fits perfect, and he's comfy back there.

 

Not being a father (yet), I have not had to look into buying car seats yet, but I thought the new general rule of thumb was that babies had to be in rear-facing ones. Is that true? And when can you put them in forward facing?

I think that's right... My kid is 30 some lbs now, and has been forward facing for about a year??? I don't remember.

 

The latest American Academy of Pediatrics recommendations say that toddlers should stay rear-facing until 2 years or until they outgrow the rear-facing specs of the seat. Most current convertible seats will accommodate a rear-facing 2 yo, but it may be cramped.

In response to the OP, I have a '12 GT. My daughter is a little over 2. I have a Britax Frontier 85 SICT. Fits great. It's similar to the Recaro Prosport in that it converts from a 5-pt harnessed carseat to a booster. The advantage of the Britax is that it has an 8 year lifespan (per the manufacturer) versus only 4 years for the Recaro. Theoretically, it could be the last car seat you ever need to buy.

 

We regularly have 2 adults and 2 teenagers in our 2011 stang. I'm only 5'9" but I slide seat a little closer for my daughter (who is taller than me!) behind me. My wife is 5'9" and other daughter is 5'4". I guess I don't see what the big deal is. We regularly take 2 hour plus trips. And it's a vert. I wouldn't say they have a TON of room..but they fit. I'VE sat in the back seat and I'm well over 200lbs.

 

expiration dates are the biggest load of non-sense i ever heard.. let's scare parents into buying more of our products instead of using the ones they have from their last kid.
Do the seat-belts in your car expire? so why would the ones on a carseats? does the ABS plastic they're made out of expire? you could bury a carseat in a landfill for 500 years, pull it out and use it (some febreze may be necessary) and it would be fine

Maybe they meant the seat buckle has a life span, it's funny my Mazda is 8 years old and the buckle gave out, making the whole seatbelt useless... It just wouldn't snap in so I paid $110 to replace the buckle...other than that the belt itself wouldn't expire
