is the Ford Racing Procal tuner worth the money?
is the Ford Racing Procal tuner worth the money?
Is the ford racing tuner worth the money? I do not want a bama tune or any custom tune right now but will likely upgrade in a year or so. (want to make sure car doesnt have anything wrong in the first year). Trying to figure out small ways to add a little power and keep my warranty. Any positive experiences with the ford tuner???
For me the extra 16 horsepower was not that big a deal. What was nice was a smoother running car with more off the line torque. It seemed to me that getting off from a stop was smoother and easier.
I bought the pack of ProCal, K&N filter and GT500 mufflers.
The mufflers, at the price, is an absolute no brainer.
Note that if your car is able to use the Track Key. If it is and you are thinking of going that way that note that the Track Key install will override the ProCal.

Procal tuner is just as bad warranty-wise as any tuner, the only way to get any warranty coverage is to have an authorized Ford Racing dealer install it.
So if warranty is a concern, and you are willing to let be in jeopardy later on, then just wait and get a proper tune/tuner.

My car came with the ProCal, K&N filter and GT500 mufflers installed by the dealer. I have not driven any other GT to compare it too but it shifts smooth has a lot of torque. Car has full warranty so I cant complain.
If your dealer told you anything different, then they either lied or didn't know what they were talking about, or, they are making their own warranty.
GET IT IN WRITING!

Do we have a member on this forum that had his 2011 GT (back in 2011) dynoed before and after the install of the Ford Racing Procal and lost a few horsepower? Just saying.....

A dealership can't just void your warranty because you have a tune. They have to prove that the damage to your vehicle was caused by the modificaitons you made. If they can't, they legally can't void your entire warranty. I wouldn't recommend hiding it from the dealership. Some service managers understand what a tune does and don't fear it. I would give a few local dealerships a call and see what they think about tuning and your warranty..
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions or need some assistance in the near future.

What he said exactly... HP gains not the big deal with the FRPP, its just improved a lot from a stop.
Also agree with the poster who mentioned a tune doesn't void your warranty- UNLESS they can determine the parameters changed by the tune caused the failure.
If I were to do it over again, I would have installed the FRPP tuner myself. The ONLY warranty difference between installing it yourself and having the dealer install it is if you blow up your car's processor while doing the install (which would be hard to do, given the rather detailed instructions from FRPP). Once it is installed, it doesn't matter who installed it- the effect on the engine is exactly the same. If you break something in the engine, what is Ford going to say ("Well, the tune was installed successfully, but the fact that you did it- and not one of our dealers- caused the engine problem you are experiencing... even though the parameters are not editable during the installation")... I don't think so.
I have yet to see a single incident where the FRPP tune caused ANY problem that caused Ford to deny a claim (and you would think someone would have come to one of the forums to gripe if that were to happen).
Get the FRPP package (mufflers, filter, tune), install it yourself, enjoy the improved throttle and off the line performance (and sweeter sound of the mufflers).

I meant to say that I still have full 5/60 on powertrain and the 3yr bumper to bumper. I got that in writing when I got the car off the dealers showroom floor so im not concerned about it. They said they build out a couple a year and they all retain full warranty.
You obviously have a dealer who is willing to do the warranty themselves, exclusive of Ford, so you're lucky.
I know what you are saying and it is smart to point that out .
In my case, I guess the dealer had to warranty themselves because they already did all the mods and I wasn't buying the car without full warranty. They even wrote that any and all parts they installed will be replaced if necessary with the exact same parts not stock Mustang parts.
