Ford barcoding

So I'm about due for my second oil change and I'm going to a different ford dealer. The original one bragged about how when they scan the vehicle barcode it tells them what specs the car has so they know what oil to use. My question is. What information is available via the barcodes. Example, does it show options like track pack so they know they have to use that 5w50?




I don't want to go through the hassle of having brand new oil wasted because the wrong oil was used.....again.



Not to mention another hour wasted....on a day off.

When the service manager enters the car info, either through scanning the bar code or by entering the VIN into OASIS, they will get ALL the info and history on the car.

Now, whether the tech pays any attention to that is up to how conscientious he is.

Were it me, I would make sure and talk to the service manager and make sure it is done right.

Of course, I don't take my car to the dealer for anything other than warranty work.

Can't they read the oil cap? lol.

Or, they could just read the oil cap or tag on the inside of the hood...

Any good Advisor or Tech will do their best to ensure the proper fluids and parts are installed in your vehicle. The problem is sometimes Dealerships are over booked... Under staffed... Or both. And let's face it... We all are humans and make mistakes. The Shop Foreman at my Dealer just yesterday forgot to install a new Service Reminder Sticker in a vehicle. So even guys who have been doing this job for over a decade can forget things. As a consumer it is best for your own protection just to politely remind them of special requirements for your vehicle...

It should show up in OASIS and it should be caught by the parts department when they bill out the oil and filter for your oil change. They get the same information that the service advisor does on their computer, so they know what oil, how much oil, and what filter goes on your specific vehicle.

Agreed. Most guys at the dealer know what they're doing. They see the same cars day in day out. I used to know the oil requirements of a manufacturer's entire fleet going back 3 generations. Just remind them. If you wanna get extreme, find out who their top tech/s are and ask to meet him and request only he work on your vehicle.

Thanks for feedback everyone. And just to give you a little backstory.....I did specify that the car was a track pack and that its 5w50. When I was paying I noticd the invoice had the other oil listed. Then I tried to explain that they put the wrong oil in and they began to rant about the vehicle barcoding. I finally just told them to just look at the oil cap....... Thats when the hampster fell off the wheel ....and they offered to fix it...hence why I am going to a new dealer. I have never had a dealership give me pushback on somthing that was obviously their error.

Also I usually do my own oil, but since its new I want all the services to be recorded.

Well I'm in the waiting room like a spouse waiting for my significant others surgery. Nervous as hell because I'm at a new dealership. I specifically told them about the 5w50 that I want in the car. I'll let you know the outcome. I think I'm just gonna do the basic service myself for now on.....

Well bud how'd it go? Did you explain to them what the last dealership did?

It's unfortunate that the dealer didn't immediately accept their mistake the first time instead of you having to argue it.

The dealer I worked at, any time a mistake was made the first thing we did was accept fault and take care of it. No matter what.
