First time at the track...
Well going to my first track event on Aug 4th at NCCAR.......2mi rd course.
http://nccar.us/
What kinda things do I need to know to help me out?
Anything I need to look at doing for race day (remove jack/spare, etc.)
What do u recommend I take with me besides a cooler of water?
Looking forward to this event! I will post pics to this thread when I get back.

Buy a roll of 3m blue painter's tape. Use it to cover the headlights and any other part of the car you don't want to get stone chips.
Put a piece of blue tape around your parking brake handle to remind you not to set the parking brake when you come off the track
When you get there in the morning, remove anything lose in the interior portion of the car. Things like a sunglasses case, cell phone holders, packs of gum and the like. They'll likely want you to remove your floor mats as well. The jack and inflation kit can stay.
If you feel the brake pedal getting long, bring the car in.
Listen to your instructor and concentrate on learning the line, you won't be fast until you do.

Oh a couple more things.
You're likely to have one of the faster cars in your group so you going to get held up by slower cars. You can lean on them a bit, but if they won't wave you by (it's a d1ck move, but it happens), take a drive through to get some clear track. A bad case of red mist can leave you with a bent mustang.
If you are getting held up a lot, just make sure your lined up first when you grid up to go out again. That should give you several clear laps before you catch up to the back markers. I done my fastest laps when I've be lined up first. These are also the occasions that I've over heated my tires, so be aware of that.
Conversely, if someone wants by, let them go. Holding up a faster car won't make you any faster and like I said earlier, it's a total d1ck move.

WOW, what a day! Great weather and a great track experience!
I used to have respect for Corvette's, but not after today.....first session of the day was nothing but waiting for Vett's to wave me by. My car handled GREAT, but a little advice for those who plan on taking their 5.0 out on a rd course: Upgrade teh brakes & Rear Sway bar. Two main things I could have used today, then a set of race seats. Even so ,the car outperformed the vette's and every other mustang out there today. Can't wait to do it again!
Here's a video & some pics...(Last one is a photoshop of three pics, all cars in the shot are my car)

Don't have the part # off hand, I found the best price at http://www.nopi.com and called them up to verify the 2012 lines would fit my 2013 Boss 302. $197 and free ship a few months ago. They weren't sure and took a few minutes to call Goodridge directly to verify. Good customer service.

I have never been to a drag strip, so this might seem a dummy question:
are you supposed to shift at different RPM doing 0-60 times and doing 1/4 miles? or just take it too redline for every drag racing situation?
I'm asking this because I dont know where the shift points are for each gear on my car, 3.7L w/ 3.31 axle

Hey Xar have you ever taken your car to PIR? I know they have free run days there. I have always wanted to take a car around that track. I used to watch the Indy car races there when I worked in Jantzen Beach.
