First Time Buyer; Worried

This June I plan on heading to a dealer and ordering a 2012 GT/CS Grabber Blue w/t Hid & Security Package or w/t Glass roof, not sure which one yet.

I am more concerned about the cost of every thing and I was I hoping I could get some incite on what I can expect.

I am hoping I can get a pretty near number on what I should pay w/t or w/t out CA tax and licensing on the two listed Stang I am interested in. So if you bought one similar how much did you pay? Or know you car prices.

I will truly appreciate, pics to follow in August.

-Cliffs On Me-
I am 20
My monthly Salary:1,300-1,500; Bills: insurance on it
Sell 08 V6 Stang(In fathers name even though I purchased/ I had no credit)
My Stang will be payed off next month.
Lives in Cali
Has X plan Pin.
No problem paying $400 a month on Payment.
Dad may co-sign depending on apr%
Down payment 16-18k

Well you can build and price it at the Ford vehicles website or you can go here:

http://www.truecar.com/

And get an idea of what you should pay for it.

monkeycat, on your limited income, banks will cap you at about $200 per month for a loan (due to debt to income ratios). That's about a $10K loan. You mentioned a big downpayment, so that will definitely help sway the bank to consider the loan despite your limited credit history. That still leaves you about $10K short and in my experience, you're going to need your dad to co-sign based on the info you've presented.

Assuming you can get say $13k for your '08, and the price of your GT/CS comes in around $35k, you're talking about a $22k note at probably 7% because of your age. You're looking at a payment north of $550 and of course that doesn't include the insurance. That is a 48 month calculation. You might be able to get it down going 60 months, but your interest rate would likely rise.

I would save some money, that is a huge payment for someone your age especially if it doesn't include insurance which on that car for a young guy will cost big $$.

By the time you are ready this summer you could find a used '11 and let someone else take the hit thus get more car for your money.

Consider getting a V6 instead, for someone in your situation it is a much better choice and it will be leaps and bounds faster than your '08 V6 and is capable of much better gas mileage.

And for you out in California, by this summer gas will be closing in on $4.50 a gallon or worse, so gas mileage is a huge concern.

5 years is max. And even now, I don't want that. 6 years on a 5 year warranty is... well, odd for me to accept.

I am with others, wait for a used one to show up... and they do... that's what I did, although when Awesome came about... I wasn't even lookin' to buy her... but she called to me, and I finally accepted my fate.

And I got a *much* lower payment to boot.

Don't go throwin' the money at a new car, you're too young to be saddled by debt of this magnatude just yet. Even if everything else is being paid for, save the money.

All very smart & educated replies!! Kinda not what you prob wanted to hear? I know I can't see stuff the 'smart' way. I look @ this crap in another way. You only live once! It's not right of me to say what happened to me will happen to y'all, oh well though. 1 day I woke up just great! Next thing I know, woke up laying in hospital bed & couldn't really move. I am better now, but once I was released I started living 1 day @ a time. My '11 is costing dang near all I get a month! It's so worth it!! I don't really have a future, though.

Just really think & plan it out, put the #'s on paper. What I did. If you want it, go for it!! & I bought a pre-owned/used '11. No way I could afford a 'new' one.

eliyarbrough what happened to?

Heres my original thoughts, put 17/18k down on a 38k car, finance 20k, that divided by 60(5 year) is $333. Figure Apr of 6% will bring it up to about $370 a month. Insurance I will pay no more than $100 month, whatever more my parents will cover, gas $120 a month I dont drive long distances. At a minimum if I make my minimum of $1300 hundred a month ill be left with $720 a month spending and saving.

Based on your income and downpayment, I recommend you wait awhile before buying a '12.
Do you have 6 months take-home pay in the bank for emergencies? Do you really NEED a new car? Do you have your own house or apt? Do all you bills equal to less than half of your take home pay?

Can't answer yes to all of these, put a good wash and coat of wax on your '08 and keep on Stangin'.

After all my bills and an estimated car payment of $370 id be left with $720 a month.

I am 18 years old, and my payment is $320 a month for 48 months. Interest rate is 2.79% Wouldn't build one, try to locate One. It's a dealership, don't forget you can negotiate!
Honestly let your dad co-sign. Save you so much in interest.

Monkeycat, I was in a bad 4 wheeler wreck. One landed on me while jumping sand dunes. I just now know how short live really is. Again, I don't see there being a next month. No future here!! You need to think about this.

Another thing he needs to consider is if he gets a speeding ticket - it will be hard to have self control with that new GT...

Thad be no to all.

I do feel buying from a dealer lot would be cheaper than ordering; with the ability of negotiating and letting some one take the hit and buy used. I do appreciate all the feedback.

You need to find a deal like I did. I was helping a friend find a Mustang. Never used Craigslist before then. Was looking on it for her. Saw a listing for a '11, never clicked it. I finally did & man am I glad I did!! It was a pre-owned w/1,921 miles. Check all around you. Hear of guys going from their 11's to Boss 302's. They're out there.
