First GT...Leftover 2012, or new 2013?

I have wanted a Mustang for about 10-12 years. My favorite cars are the 03/04 Mach's and termi's but I am wanting a new car with a warranty. The 03/04's hold their value a little too well for my taste (plus the 5.0 performance is amazing).

I had quoted a 2012 Base GT 6sp (3.73 as only option) about 6 months ago (when it was a 1500 rebate) for 28k OTD (after tax title license).

Now that the 2013's are out the rebate is 3k (plus im sure I can negotiate an even better price given everyone is going to want a 2013 now!).

I am thinking I should be able to get a base model GT for around 26k OTD which is a performance bargain! The base 2013 (assuming sticker of about 31.5k after destination) will probably not get much of a discount, not to mention unlikely to have any rebates?

Which means a 2013 OTD is probably around the 33k OTD mark, so 7k more than the 2012!

I think I will try and find a way to make the '13 tails fit the '12! (anyone know if this will work?).

I do like the styling of the '13 (hood looks mean) but 5-7k in price is hard to justify by aesthetics and an 8hp gain!

O really? ok thanks for the heads up. I will email them and ask for quotes on an equivalent '13.

I just used the overstock.com Cars function and its showing their price as 25,400 for a base 12 GT! Thats cheap! 5k off msrp.

You can get a good deal on a 12 right now. I was at my dealership this morning and they had a Kona blue premium gt 6mt for $29 and some change.

Ok that makes sense. I saw the canadian order guide got posted but thats not of too much help. Looks like an increase of 600 for base which is ok... I think I read 500 for cloth recaro and 1k for leather.

Really hoping for a 2013 base black 6mt with 3.73 and leather recaro's (not sure if they will do leather recaro's with the base cloth back seats?). But figure that would be roughly 34k OTD because there are no incentives....

That compared to a 2012 with all the same above (minus recaro obviously) for possibly ~27k OTD would make for a 7k difference. I am thinking I will track down a '12!

Anyone know if the '13 tails will fit on the '12 or would that require a bumper change?

My last quote for a '12 was 29k OTD (with the 1500 rebate). I have requested a few brochures (hoping for the 750 discount) on top of the 3k rebate right now, should make for a VERY good price. Hoping I can see the magic 27k OTD number in one of these dealer response emails!

You will likely find a '12 that has all or most of what you're wanting and save a bundle ($2-3k+) over the price of a '13, if the improvements on the '13 are not "gotta haves" for you.

It will likely take some time to find "the car", but I did that with my '11 and saved about $3.5k all told.

I think your right...the new tails and new hood are cool but certainly not 3k-6k worth of cool! (plus it looks like I might be able to retrofit the '13 tails onto the '12)

I just got an email from one local dealer (ironically the same dealer from 5 months ago and the SAME CAR he quoted 5 months ago!).

Its a brand new 2012 black base model with 3.73's BUT...it has the california emissions package on it. Does anyone know what all this adds? I plan on tuning regardless so hoping all of the emissions equipment can easily be removed and tuned out????

The sticker on this car is 30,390. The dealer claims invoice is 28689. He said his best OTD with the 3k rebate is 27,841. This does not seem like that great of a deal seeing as how the previous best price (5-6 months ago with only a 1500 rebate) was 29451. Subtract the extra 1500 rebate and you get 27941 which means after all this extra time (6 months) the car is only discounted another 100 bucks...

I checked the overstock.com cars site, and it shows a 2012 base model 6mt with 3.73 as being 25,808 (including 3k rebate) plus T/T/L. I think our tax is at 8.25% which would be 2,065 plus figure 150 for license/title, so that comes to 28,023. So this guy is giving me 100 bucks of the overstock.com price.

How much better do you think I can do??? I just checked truecar.com and it is actually the same system as the overstock.com one, so it shows the car being 25,808 with only option being 3.73.

Apparently the tails will fit but there will be a gap at the bottom because the 2010-12s angle down and then back up again at the bottom where the '13s are more straight at the bottom. There's another thread here about retrofitting '13 parts onto '11-'12s. I believe it was Roush that installed the '13 tails onto a '12 race car. It will work if you're ok with a small gap.

I found some pics of the retrofit. It does not look too bad in pics but I would have to see them in person. Not a deal breaker though cuz saving 4k compared to a '13 is worth more than some stinkin tailights!

I am going to the dealership tomorrow to see what we can do as far as a dealer search. Hoping to find another one like I want (besides that california emissions car that has been on the lot for at least 4 months, probably longer)

I have 2010 Base GT Manual, and I just wish I got a Premium, I think I would rather go for a Premium 2012 then a Base 2013, it's easy to argue that you might not need this or that equipment in the Premium package, but it's darn nice to have it even dough you might not need it all the time.......

What do you miss about the premium?

The only thing to me that I like about it is the leather...Aside from that I just dont see where the 4,000 is!!!

I think the cloth seats in this car do in fact look cheap (I do like the leather wrapped wheel/door panels as well) but I was planning on putting some racing seats in anyway. I wanted to get the recaro's if I got the 2013 but the price difference between '12 and '13 is just so huge with that 3k rebate!

The sync on the radio, the door sides feels like they are from a mid 80's Tempo, electric seats, radio buttons on steering wheel, a speedo that shows more then 140Mph, no digital speedo, speed limiter at 130MPH, I don't know what they added on the newer years, but mine sure do sucks sometimes...

Go for the 2013

The 2013 Base GT now comes w/Sync and leather wrap steering wheel standard. Don't forget about X-plan pricing. You can get a very good deal if you shop around and are willing to walk away.

Hey r00st,

I’m not sure if you saw my other post, but you can PM me the specs/options/features you’re looking for and the areas you’re willing to buy from and I can send you some options. If you do decide to place a 2013 order instead let me know and I can track it for you.

So here is the scoop...that cali emissions car is actually a Saleen so thats out!

There are three cars available in my area that are close to my criteria.

Car A: 2012 Black GT Base, sticker 30,505 (3.31 gears). It was built Dec 13 and only has 7 miles on it (I like!). It is 80 miles away from me.

Car B: 2012 Black GT Base, sticker 30,105 (3.31 gears) I guess Ford increased the price in October on the GT's thats why this car is 400 cheaper. It was build in August and has 46 miles on it (170 miles away). I was offered this car for 27,460 completely out the door (after 2100 tax and 150 for lic/title). With my brochure discount that would be 27,610.

Car C: 2012 Black GT Base with 3.73 gears, sticker 30,900. This car was built in december as well and only has 27 miles on it. It is, however, 280 miles away so its going to cost a little money to get it here. My OTD on this car is 28,267 (so 27,517 after the 750 brochure discount).

I think I can get 200 or so off each of the above cars from another dealer. One dealer said the above prices are IT...they sell for 300 under invoice and no more. The other dealer I think might squeeze a couple hundred but thats probably it.

I do like the fact the 2013 cars have HID, Sync and leather wrapped wheel standard along with the new tails/wheels and hood. The only problem is a 2013 with 3.73 I am guesstimating will sticker at 31,500 and I am assuming there will be NO rebates from the get go. This means I would probably be paying about 31,000 OTD (so 3,000-4,000 more than these 2012's). I just dont think I can justify that expense for what it offers me...

If I do go with the 2012 and choose the 3.31 car (its 700 cheaper than that 3.73 car) I would be looking at roughly 700 bucks to get the 3.73's installed myself but that is an option.

If I choose 2013 I would probably splurge for the recaro's (500 cloth/1,000 leather). Even without the recaro's that extra 3,000 in initial cost comes out to be about 55 bucks a month. I am not sure the 55 a month is A: Worth the options it gives me and B: Not sure if it will help that much with eventual resale?

Depending on what the 2015 looks like I would consider upgrading if I am in a financial position to do so, so the 2012 would make it easier to change vehicles due to less investment initially. On the flip side it might be harder to sell because people might want the 2013 instead???

Opinions????

I'd go for the 2012, OP.... sounds like you're set on black? I was going to suggest Kona, since that's why I got a 2012 mainly for the color

But seriously, 12 or 13 has its merits... you can save some money by going with the 12, and then using the extra cash to get minor mods like an Axleback or shifter... The 13 is nice, but basically the same car, with some added goodies, which you pay more for. If you like how the 13 looks, then go for the 13... but I'd say that's the biggest reason why one would get the 13 over the 12. The looks, and maybe some interior tidbits (recaros, lcd screen, etc).
