Smile First competitive event for my 5.0

Well havent made it to the real tracks yet (Mid-Ohio, Grattan etc) so I decided to hit up a local auto-cross today to have some fun.

Results will be posted next week, and when we left my times were VERY competive (dont want to jinx it)

on the first run in the first video (two runs in the first video) I realize I totally blew a corner LOL.

Looks like it corners amazing!

I can't believe how much the axle moves side to side in the second vid, looks like it moves +-1" from center!

Pretty sweet, you were coming within inches of a couple of those cones. Nice going!

Hmm...

That was a really open, loose autocross course, the small cars ought to really scream through that one.

Not even a slolum section on it, never ran on an autocross that didn't have slolum cones set up on it.

there was nothing open about it! Even the Cobalt SS and Mazdaspeed 3 guys were *****ing who crazy tight the course was. There was one point where My car could barely fit through due to width!!!

It was organized by the Alfa Romeo Club so they like TIGHT and low speed

Didn't look like it to me.

It's not supposed to be easy...

Back when I autocrossed it was in my GLH Turbo, I would have loved that course!

its a wide angle lense on the camera thats throwing you.

Stay tuned to future videos from other Auto-x's (like the ones from the Corvette clubs) and I will show you a wide open auto x.

I was in first gear through the WHOLE course.

Thats a 3.73 car with a 3.66 first gear! talk about low speed!

I was wondering what your ratio was. Not to get off track but do you think the 3.73 cost you time next to the Taurus in the quarter? I'm thinking the 3.55 matches the 6 spd better.

The diffference between the 3.55 and 3.73 cost me nothing if anything it helped. I had to get to 4th gear with either ratio, so same amount of shifts. If the gear ratio diff could save a gear shift then sure.

But since it doesn't you WANT the extra mechanical advantage.

Yeah, corvette guys are big time whiners about tight courses, they like lots of straight chutes and wide turns.

Well I am a road race guy so agree with them. Lol

autocrossing is "cute" like a toy train set. Give me a real dedicated road course over auto-x any day.

I started in auto x, as soon as I got into road racing, I forgot auto-x completly. I go for fun now.

Road racing > everything else.

Very nice throttle control. It must take great discipline to keep from roasting the tires if the entire coarse was run in first gear.

What tires are you running?

And that course seemed really short at only ~35 seconds.
