Finally pulled the trigger...
Finally pulled the trigger...
...and ordered my car today!
2011 Ford Mustang GT Premium Coupe 6M
Sterling Gray / Charcoal with Cashmere Stripe
401A Premiere Trim
Brembo Brake Package
3.55 Rear Axle Ratio
HID Headlamps
Security Package
The hardest part was deciding on a color. For me, it was between Kona Blue and Sterling Gray. I would have been happy with either one, but since they are discontinuing Sterling Gray for the 2012 MY I felt compelled to go with it over Kona Blue. I could have been swayed into waiting for a 2012 if they offered a nice dark metallic green, or Grabber Green! I know I'm probably in the minority there.
The other hard decision was to go spoiler or spoiler-less. I wasn't crazy about the pedestal spoilers on the 2005-2009s, and the GT/CS and GT500 spoilers are a little too flashy for me. I was all set on getting spoiler delete until I saw a GT with a spoiler in the showroom at the dealership today. I thought the standard ducktail spoiler was very subtle and helped hide that hideous abomination on the trunk that looks 10x worse in person than it does in photos. At the end of the day, I could have gone either way, but I stuck with the spoiler. I'm planning on replacing the trunk lid with a non-premium at some point down the road, so I didn't want to sweat it.
All-in-all, I've been wanting a Mustang for over 10 years now. I used to be a huge GM fan, but was very disappointed with they way they supported the F-Bodies after 1998 and basically left the car to wither and die. I followed the development of the S197 since then (and in later years, the 5th Gen Camaro). I was extremely disappointed with how the new Camaro turned out. I'm glad GM brought it back, and I hope they continue to improve it because it's going to spur Ford on to do bigger and better things with its pony car. When GM burdened the U.S. taxpayer with its decades' worth of bad management decisions and terrible product, I left that camp for good. I've recommended Ford to everyone I know who is in the market for a new car. This will be the fifth vehicle that I've either purchased or recommended a family member/friend who eventually purchased a new vehicle from Ford. I can't wait to take delivery of mine and I'm glad to (finally) be on board.

You know, I really did like the looks of that particular spoiler, but not so much to pay extra just for the look. I angle my side mirrors so that I can track the rear of the car and use them almost exclusively when backing up, so I couldn't justify having the camera in the rear view mirror. If I had gone with the electronics package I would have taken it for sure.
Granted, it would have been nice if the "wart" was painted to match the body color but I still fail to understand why people complain about the aesthetics of purely functional parts. I hear of people removing AM/FM antennas because they don't like the look - then they complain because they get lousy radio reception. Form follows function.

Plus, I think we have every right to argue for a better designed car. Form follows function sounds great on paper; that doesn't mean I want a CB antenna, hitch ball mount or a trunk wart on my car.
Yeah, this is the first time I've ordered a car. I've always wanted to do it, but I guess I didn't have the patience. At least I don't have to worry about getting the scratches out of the paint from the "dealer prep" this time!
I have no desire to listen to satellite radio. If I could have chosen, I would have left that check boxed un-ticked, but when it is included in a trim level that I want, there's not much I can do about it except remove it myself.

Agreed, but what would you do to improve the situation? Color matched antenna has been mentioned. You can't reposition it to the roof because Ford would like one solution for both coupes and convertibles. You can't put it behind body panels because of reduced reception (even overhanging trees can impair reception). The only other viable solution is to make satellite radio optional but there are contractual requirements driving that decision. Ford was one of the original investors in Sirius and they have agreed to equip about 70% of their vehicle production with factory satellite receivers. That's why you won't see Sirius as a 'delete' option anytime soon.
I could find a place to hide it, like under the carpet on the rear deck on the coupe. Past 2 vehicles I have had both had Sirius, and both were hidden, my F150 was under the plastic cowl in front of the windshield and my Mazda 3 had it in the dash where the Navigation screen was supposed to be, neither of them had reception problems either.
