i bought with xplan but paid $0 doc fees, the dealer doesn't charge any

if you are buying with xplan, only a max. of $75 can be charged no matter what the limit in your state

Does anyone know how the X-plan compares to the USAA car buying service in terms of price? The x-plan seems to have a lot of perks

My x-plan purchase was the best car buying experience of my life. Not sure I would do it any other way if ordering a new car again. I don't know anything about the USAA service. I would be happy to post all of my numbers if interested.

Documentation fees will very by state.

From my personal experience, no dealer was willing to abandon the $0.65 tire fee, $56.48 fuel charge, $498 advertising assessment, and $795 destination fee that appeared on the invoice, even though only the last charge appears on the sticker. I negotiated a price under invoice, but since invoice includes all these charges, I guess I'm stuck with them. The advertising assessment particularly annoys me, because very few cars have this. Does D or X plan get rid of all these fees?

No, X-plan did not get rid of them on mine.

my X-plan had $75 in documentation fees as well as an additional cost for the tire fee, destination, etc.

It is interesting the varied experience everyone has on the X-plan alone. I kind of thought it was a set price + whatever rebates were available.

There is no variety in x-plan. The price is included on the invoice.

Even though fuel & advertising charges don't show on the public window sticker, they do appear on the factory invoices as charges to the dealers. They are legitimate charges that the dealers incur and are a part of their cost and rightfully included in the invoice total. You'll find that most vehicles (not just Fords) have destination, fuel, and advertising fees if you look at the true factory invoices.

I've worked at a Ford dealership for 12 years, get D-plan on all of my purchases, and have to pay these fees just like the public when I buy cars for myself.

Thanks for the information, Brian. It's true that most cars have all these fees except the advertising fee. None of the cars I've purchased have had an advertising fee, but I guess Ford is fond of it.
