Engine bay cleaning.

So I was wondering what everyone's opinion is on the best way to clean the engine bay on our cars. After so many spring rain showers it's starting to look a little nasty in there where I can't reach with a good towel. I know back in the day it wasn't a big deal to leave the engine run and use a good spray cleaner and then hit it with a garden hose. Any thoughts considering all of the underhood electronics that are now present? Thanks for your help.

A spray bottle of all purpose cleaner like Simple Green works, just pick up your own spray bottle that allows you to turn the sprayer to a stream if the cleaner only has a spray setting. That and a roll of paper towels is all you need. Then I spray all of the plastics and hoses with 303 protectant. Takes less than an hour and the results are good, I need to do my car and the wife's soon.

Amazon.com: Simple green all-purpose; cleaner 32oz bottle [PRICE is per BOTTLE]: Health & Personal Care Amazon.com: Simple green all-purpose; cleaner 32oz bottle [PRICE is per BOTTLE]: Health & Personal Care

303 is great for tires, and all your other rubber and plastics, I use it on the dash and door panels as well.

Here you go 2 video's showing how to clean engine, and you also can use a power washer after you apply Gunk to get it off. It will not hurt engine.

Unless you drive your car through a swamp or a cloud of locusts, I think the hose is completely unnecessary.

Simple Green and a light spray of the hose is all you need.
I do take the extra step of covering the battery and the fuse box/computer with plastic shopping bags. Some 303 or something like it after drying works well.

Yeah, that too, just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for the suggestions and putting my mind at ease. I just picture spraying it off and it never starts again. LOL!
