Any issues specific to the early build '14 model year that cause concern for a new buyer??

KC, I don't have anytime specific. But going by my early build '13 (04/2012) you shouldn't have anything to worry about. The only problems I have had are with the lower control arms clunking, and squeaking that was repaired under a TSB. I also have a giant squeaking in the rear sway bar that is going to be repaired soon. Nothing serious with the car at 18K miles. You should be fine with a '14.

The only thing that i can think of is that you need a 2014 built after July 1 if you want to install the trackey.

Thanks for the replies. I haven't paid attention to anything said about the '13/14 because I never even considered them because of that giant black area around the license plate. Seriously... that one thing.

But now that there's only a very few left around me the prices are very tempting. Not tempting enough yet... but I'm watching every day. Still don't like the license surround, but I've seen it for so long it almost looks 'normal'.

I have a 2014 GT. Build date was 2/21/13. Guess that makes it one of the early ones. Zero issues so far other than I don't want to stop driving it.

I have a 2014 with a May build date. Zero issues even with my track driving (aside from a rear brake rubbing that I think is a result of a slightly bent rear axle component).

But zero transmission problems, zero engine problems, no interior rattles or other issues... I have a base GT with TP and Recaros. I have not had any of the issues that several of my 2011/2012 GT and Boss friends have (clutch, transmission, coil packs, CEL, plugs, etc). Hopefully my good luck continues. I have just over 10,000 miles on the car, of which about 1500 are track miles.

My 14 GT was built in February of 2013 so i'm going to guess it's an early build car. The only real issues I've had with mine was the de-laminated radio screen and the replacement of my driver's side door panel because the middle insert was coming loose. I also had some paint bubbling repaired under my trunk lid and have the same issue under the hood which Ford has refused to fix. Overall it's been a good car. I have 10,500 miles on it.

Correct me if I`m wrong on any of this......

The mustang was thrown majorly out of whack because the "original plan" was to have the `15 on the road in april of `14 as part of the 50th celebration and have a long `15 run as a tribute to the long 1965 model year. However, that didnt work out and we ended up with a very long production run of 2014 with `11, `12, & `13 having the distinction of having all of the cars produced for that model year BEFORE the actual calendar year represented had been reached.

2010 of course got the shaft as a short run of the new body style with the wrong motors

I really dont think there are any because aside from a couple different colors and a differnt letter on the VIN for 2014 there is not single difference in a 2014 produced at the end of 2012 than a "late" 2013 that rolled off the same line just days earlier.

Yeah, +1 with everyone else. My 2014 has been a champ so far. This includes over 12k miles and a few track weekends as well. This thing is a tire shredder. It hurts my wallet and outs a huge smile on my case every time I'm in it. Can't go wrong with a 14.

You could always take it to a good body shop, and have it painted. Shouldn't cost much. Just a thought.

I bought my early '14 GT in July 2013. The only issue is that it's too fast and I can't seem to break anything at the dragstrip, despite dozens and dozens of 5,000 rpm launches. ****, these cars are tough!

Brian, I see your car is auto, with some mods.

How do you do 5k rpm launches with an auto? Do you Brake stand, rev, and release the brake? Just curious. What kind if times do you typically see? Is the torque convertor design to do brake stands up to 5k?

I replaced my factory torque converter with one built by Circle-D. It flashes to 5,000 rpm's at wide open throttle. I have found my best 1/4 mile runs start by holding about 1500-2000 rpm's against the brakes at the starting line. As soon as the light turns green (actually, the last amber), I release the brakes while simultaneously mashing the gas pedal which flashes the converter to 5,000 rpm's instantly.


My car typically runs the 1/4 mile in the 11.70's and 11.80's, while crossing the finish line in the 116-117 mph range. A full list of the modifications to my car are in my signature below. I really haven't done too much to this car, but picked very worthwhile mods.

Mine just turned 28k miles and was built in early February of '13. The Select Shift switch failed and was replaced. Other than that she has been flawless. I don't track her but I do run autocross.

Critical Mass

Build Date in Early May, a true 50 year (since 1964) Mustang. No issues. Delivery date was the end of june. 2200 miles on it so far.
